Introducing Séamus Óg, or new puppy.
It brings us great joy and comfort to introduce the newest member of our Irish Wolfhound pack.
He is only 8 months old and like all our Wolfhounds he is from one of the most respected breeders in the country.
Séamus Óg (formerly known as Paso) was destined for a illustrious career in America participating in dog shows but fractured a leg as a puppy and could not take the transatlantic flight. His leg has healed fully but he has a really cute way of running on it. This makes us adore him even more!
Despite devouring ‘Twenty Years a growing’, a US flag and Billy Keane’s biography on his first week, our little puppy is behaving wonderfully.
He is learning daily discipline from our wise pack leader Seamus and is providing Saoirse with the exercise and chase she needs each day to be fit and healthy.
We are thankful for his presence.
Doubtless, many guests will be too during years to come. 🐶
RETIREMENT OF SEAMUS OUR WOLFHOUND
Sad to announce our beloved Irish Wolfhound Seamus has retired from all public duties at Milltown House due to a serious illness. ☹️ He will now live out his days like the Celtic Canine King that he is, surrounded by great care and affection. ........................ FOR 5 GREAT SUMMERS he has been our cherished companion, faithfully welcomed thousands of guests and kept us safe from any metaphorical wolves.
In an illustrious career he appeared on national TV, finished 3rd in the puppy section of the West Kerry Show and even led the Ballyferriter St. Patrick’s day parade!
........................... 🇮🇪 🐺 Seamus has developed an Osteosarcoma in his back left leg. We have considered everything from an amputation to radiation treatment, but after consultation with the best vets locally and nationally (and even internationally) we have decided the best option for him is a healthy diet and a lot of affection. He is medicated against pain and is coping reasonably well on 3 legs.
He will not be out for walks on the streets of Dingle again, but he has an acre of waterfront lawn to get some exercise. ......................
We are hopeful Seamus will be present for summer 2019.
To prevent his young niece Saoirse from getting bored, we have introduced a beautiful 8 month old pup to our pack. Séamus Óg.
He will carry on the proud title for many years to come.
Séamus Óg is learning well from the leader of the pack and the three of them are a joy to behold for dog lovers on Dingle Harbour...
I was lucky to get two whiskey stories on the front cover of The Irish Times Saturday Magazine. The best whiskey bars in Ireland (one of the best road trips I’ve been on for work) was to cover the the 2014 winners of what was then only the second edition of the Irish Whiskey Awards. Also newly opened was the Whiskey Palace in Dublin which stole the show on the front page. The second cover is the story of my trip to the Dingle Whiskey School at Dingle Distillery. #irishwhiskey#whiskey#ireland#garavans#dickmacks#dingle#dukeofyork#belfast#thepalacebar
In 2013 I had the privilege of spending the weekend in @dingledistillery to report on one of their early whiskey schools for The Irish Times. It was an incredible experience meeting such an enthusiastic, proud team. Oliver Hughes gave me a fantastic introduction to the brand (and to whiskey) that has stayed with me since. We asked Kerry photographer @valerie.osullivan.5203 to visit and take the photos to accompany the feature. When this shot landed, all previous plans for the Magazine were thrown out (including moving a lot of what I had written to the online version) and this became that week’s (and my first) cover story. I’m very proud to say that it hangs framed on the walls of the @thedinglewhiskeybar still. #irishwhiskey#whiskey#dingle#ireland
And here we are now, calm,
fed and reminiscent.
The hills are old, silent:
our pipe smoke rises up.
We have come a long way...
