Possibly one of Sri Lanka’s greatest attractions is its natural beauty... #exploresrilanka

When I was in Vietnam, I spent a week motorbiking through the mountains in the northernmost part of the country. The views were so beautiful they made my head hurt. Endless rice terraces, massive ravines, towering mountain peaks... they were too vast, too immense to comprehend in their entirety.
I stopped often, desperate to remember every detail. But each time I started my bike up again, my heart broke a little knowing the impossibility of this endeavor.
But I suppose that's what makes this country so special. That it could be so beautiful, so awe-inspiring, that even members of the local tribes still stop in reverence.
Women like the one pictured here are just as much a part of the land as the mountains themselves, and just as fierce. They painstakingly carve the rice terraces into treacherous mountainsides over the course of decades. And yet even as they so actively partake in the formation of this beautiful landscape, they are still entranced enough by to stop, desperate to remember every detail. 📍:Ha Giang Loop, Vietnam
omg 🙊 I still can’t believe that this actually happened 🐘 a wild female elephant came up to me to say hello and stayed with us for about 30 minutes. I could not stop staring at her, she was so so beautiful 💛🔆 it was just me, @_tinomad , our driver and the elephant in the wild which is something that has been on my bucket list for ages 🙌🏻😭

심플한것같아요 사랑하는 사람들과 함께
많은 시간을 함께하고싶고 경제적, 시간적 제약을

Who’s feeling more awkward? The American posing on top of a bench for 10 minutes waiting for a moment without a crowd, or the girl sitting next to her trying to enjoy her corn on the cob in peace?? 🌽🕌🌇
After a several failed attempts, I realized it was impossible to get this sunset photo in front of the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia without a gazillion people sitting, walking, standing, and selling things around me. So while I know this photo is not my most beautiful, it holds a story of my experience in Istanbul and for that reason, I love it anyways!
I found Istanbul to be surprisingly hectic; specifically in this area I’m standing (by the ferry terminal which takes you from the European side to the Asian section of the city).
Chaos, especially in a very foreign city can be extremely stressful and overwhelming, which I think is exactly why so many people avoid notoriously hectic cities like Bangkok, Delhi, Ho Chi Minh, etc. Over my years of living abroad, I’ve learned to not shy away from but actually embrace crazy destinations like this because:
1) It’s a reality check on how others live which makes me more empathetic.
2) It’s a concentrated dose of culture, and in one hour I can learn more about the place than I can in 3 weeks in a more chilled environment.
3) As uncomfortable as a foreign crowd is, once you’re out of it, reflecting on it gives an adrenaline rush (like, “holy s*** that was crazy!”)
4)My hands down MOST vivid, burned-in-my-brain memories of my travels involve moments of pure culture shock. And they’re the memories I’ll have the longest. How can I not appreciate that?
Do you embrace or shy from culture shock? What destination have you been most shocked by?
