I spent three hours at the court house today filing a protective order against the man who sexually assaulted me on New Years Eve. Did you know that’s actually a short time to wait to speak to a judge at a court house? I was told to expect to be there for closer to six hours. That’s a long time to wait, especially on a during the day on a weekday. Waiting and thinking and sweating and shaking and stressing and everything else that happens when you decide to report a crime such as this. I’m fortunate though, I’m not working right now, I don’t have kids to take care of, I don’t have schoolwork etc. I have the privilege of time and availability to show up to the courthouse and wait. The problem is most victims don’t. They are working, they have kids at home, they don’t have a mode of transportation, they don’t have support, they are shamed, they don’t know their perpetrators full name, they can’t afford hours worth of side street parking... and the list goes on. One in four women and one in six men experience sexual assault. Only 28% of victims report their sexual assault to the police. I’ve reported mine and guess what? I can see why the majority do not.... #sexualassault#endthestigma#judge#courthouse#statistics#victim#survivor#perpetrator#violence#stalking#alarming
If you are looking for a day date, I’d highly suggest picking one of the close by smaller cities/towns to explore. This picture is of the Licking County Courthouse located right in the middle of downtown Newark. Leave a comment telling me what city you would like to explore or what city you’ve already explored and loved!
Don’t forget to be prepared to go through security when entering the Lee County Justice Center. Think of it like going to the airport - take everything out of your pockets, remove your belt, and no liquids or weapons are allowed! #swflcourts

Today’s courthouse is the Robert NC Nix Sr Federal Building and US Courthouse in Philadelphia, where we are working on some new interior spaces. The building is a large Art Deco structure finished in 1941 and designed and constructed by Harry Sternfeld and @ballinger_ae, with sculptural panels by Donald DeLue and Edmond Amateis. A classic Public Works Administration, Depression-era project. 📷 Jenna Fagan
