Happy Friday! Bring on the weekend! To get you in the party spirit here’s a little taste of the @reynoldssisters documentary series about the Broken Heel Festival. Well done ladies! Looking fabulous! 💖
What we're watching! Thea is throwing it way back to the disco era with Cleopatra Jones & The Casino of Gold. Tamara Dobson has some AMAZING costumes and her makeup is to die for! If you want a film full of gaudy bright metallics, chicks kickin' butt and hilarious one-liners, chuck this film on your to-watch list stat!
And if you want to take a step back in time to the 70s for your next costume, pop in store and we can get you sorted!
I designed this costume for two characters called 'The Doves'. The textiles on the right are hand dyed satin stitched into and quilted. The doves were twins and moved in unison with each other - quite spooky. #costumedesign

This is a sample of the reverse applique technique I used for the last costume posted on the site. This type of applique works particularly well with really inexpensive glitzy fabrics which are; layered over each other, machine stitched and then the layers are carefully cut through with small scissors to expose the underneath layers. The beauty of this technique is that the final outcome is quite intricate and colourful, giving the illusion of expensive cloth. #costumedesign#applique

One of my biggest projects to date is finally finished and here is a first impression of the main costume.
Once again I had the honour to create stage outfits for the Swiss metal band Deep Sun to promote their new album. They asked me to create outfits around the theme "Artificial Intelligence versus Humanity" and this is the design leadsinger Debora has chosen for herself.
For the armor inspired look I took a lot of inspiration from the cosplay community, working with EVA foam and LEDs for the first time.
All of it was very new and challenging for me, but I'm proud that I stepped so far out of my comfort zone and tried all these new techniques and materials.
For my first attempt at cosplay crafting I'm quite happy, allthough I have learnt so much that I would do a hundred things differently next time... ;) I will show lots more pictures and info on the costume, the matching props and outfits for the other band members during the next few days, so stay tuned if you want to see more!

No matter how much Ridley tried, this Engineer couldn’t play Chopsticks on that thing. The scene worked out in the end, however. #prometheus#costumedesign

Time for another "Character a day challenge" post, a character that is some kind of crossover between Mad Max and a Warhammer 40k techno-barbarian. :P
Alarik, Champion of the Lady of Rust
As a true son of his world, Alarik grew up roaming the endless junkyard planes that cover the entirety of his home planet. His tribe, as the rest that lived on the planet, was nomadic. Travelling from one place to another, escaping the deadly sandstorms and looking to get their hands into any spare parts of equipment, scratch metal and salvageable machinery.
The planet had become along the centuries a ship graveyard for the neighbouring systems, and huge skeletons of ancient spaceships shaping the landscapes of the planet like silent dead giants. Most of what remained on the planet was garbage, but some artefacts of arcane power were still hidden and undiscovered among all that crap.
His saga tells that Alarik lived as a thief until one night he tried to rob a temple of The Rust. Once there, it is said, the holy Lady of Rust appeared to him and made him promise he would end his sinful life at that same moment. But in order to redeem his many sins he would have to begin a quest to retrieve several ancient arcane relics and bring them to her.
Since then, the quest has led Alarik on a journey across the planet in search for these powerful and holy relics. Becoming himself on the process an extremely powerful warrior driven by a blind faith on the Lady of Rust. The truth is that he has challenged many warriors and confronted many monsters and never lost. He always says is because the Lady of rust is watching after him.
Now his name and legend precede his path anywhere he goes, and many champions and warlords challenge him in personal combat with the hope of taking the relics he carries with him, but just to end up hanging as trophies from his belt.
Knowbody knows how many more relics he needs to find to end his quest, but the Champion of the Lady of Rust will not rest until he gets them all.

In this pic you can see the rod placement into the receptacles on the central hub. At this point @kirkmaxson begins with paper templates to visually asses, size, density and variety. From here the wing really starts taking shape. We begin finishing work to the harness and base structure as the artistic elements move forward in tandem. Collaborative creative efforts are the spice of life to me. Being able to immerse ones art skills into projects with other creative artists keeps art flowing, alive and fun for me. Truly blessed to have been able to create with such amazing artisans like Kirk. Stay tuned for more 😍😉😘 #costume#makersgonnamake
