Destiny Infinite Edge Sword. Can you believe this is just spray paint? I often get asked by guests wheter it's a metal blade or not. I'm so in love with the result and think I will carry it around on a convention next year!
I got a commission from my Etsy store. The customer wants Issacs sword from golden sun complete with sheath. The sword is made from floor mats for the guard, 3 mil for the pommel, a 1 x 2 for the handle, and 8mm TNT foam for the blade. The sheath is made from that corrugated sign board and will be wrapped in foam. This is the first day of progress.
What’s this?! Gillian’s making a prop?? So Ciri obviously needs a sword, and here’s my first bit of progress on that. I started with a shell of oaktag, which I use for patternmaking so I already had it around the studio. It turns out to be a pretty nice base for a prop blade, because you can crease it to create clean corners and edges, and it has a smooth surface so it should be relatively easy to finish later. If it gets bent it’s done for though, so I added a layer of kobracast inside each half, doubled up around the point and cutout area, to give it the necessary resilience. (@beckanoel is my hero for suggesting this stuff)
The result is quite solid, but the cutout portion still needed more support to prevent the whole thing from flopping over the first time I bump it on something. I needed something very strong, very thin, and very rigid to run up each side of the opening, so after fishing around a bit I ended up ordering 1/8” carbon tubes from a kitemaking store. They did the job beautifully, will absolutely keep in mind for future projects!
The two halves of the blade are stuck together with the kobracast, and sanded along the edges to give them a nice smooth edge (and reduce the risk of paper cuts).
For the hilt I started with a 1/2” dowel, and built up the tapered shape with wrapped twine plus some kobracast scraps to define the midpoint. I’ll do worbla over the top of this to smooth it out, and finish it with a leather wrap. The pommel and cross-guard will probably be apoxie sculpt, to help balance out the weight and give me a nice solid connection point.
My mom: "another sword?"
So excited to shoot the finished cosplay tomorrow! 😺 My test photos of the entire finished cosplay are already up on my Patreon, and the photos from the shoot will be there first too, as well as many writeup posts from making the whole build!! Patreon.com/luxlocosplay
Hello, guys!🌀 This is EPIC #Frostmourne Sword from #Warcraft - #WoW. Has no LED’s but we were about it. Instead we put inside 1m length metal stick, durability is really important. Will it be better with the LED’s, what do you think? 💡 #designedby#cosplaysword
