What do they all have in common? All of them sung in a choir at some point in their life!! And there are thousands more who did.. from rappers to physicians... from chefs to Accountants....Of course, I'm biased... but I sometimes look at some of these "artists" and would-be creatives a little funny when they turn their noses up at Choir/choral music, either in church or school... it gives you such a solid foundation and teaches so many skills aside from music. Go take some music lessons or join a choir... THE WORLD WILL BE A BETTER PLACE BECAUSE OF IT!
I’m spending the day honoring the great MLK with these wonderful people. We’re recording my piece “The Listening” based on his speech from 1967 called “A Time to Break The Silence”. In this speech he was speaking out against the Vietnam War. He said that it’s time to listen and break the silence. It is time to give the oppressed a voice. .
Happy smiles and exuberant voices at our first rehearsal last week! We look forward to another year of enriching the musical life of the city (and beyond) as we share our imaginative, immersive choral experiences with you. Stay tuned for updates!
Until then, we are counting the hours until our first performance of the year at the Baxter this Tuesday (Beethoven's "Elegischer Gesang" with string quartet) as part of the UCT Summer School with Dr Barry Smith. Tickets available via Webtickets or at the door.

I’m working hard on this edit for my incredible friends Gwen & Nick. Their wedding was epic. With a 40 strong choir, trumpets, piano, soloists and a church packed full of all their guests singing their hearts out, the level of emotion was off the richter scale. It was like nothing I’ve ever experienced and will stay with me forever. Because the music was so important and so special to Gwen & Nick, I am working on my first attempt at producing a digital album and slideshow with the audio from their day on. I recorded it on my humble iPhone and am in a hair-pulling-nightmare of learning new software and a genre I’m completely new to. But I am determined! So watch this space. #firstname.lastname@example.org And I must not forget to thank the lovely Neale James @nealejames for the inspiration at last year’s Fuji conference. Thank you! Also, @kevinmullinsphotography do you recognise this bride? She sang at my wedding 😊
I recently had the privilege of singing in a choir that truly appreciated music and felt devoted to being almost perfect, and I must say it was a spectacular feeling. We rehearsed our set of songs for about 12 hours and I the final product was gorgeous. I may be trying to be an actor but I have to say choral music has nudged its way deep into my heart and I don’t believe it will ever leave me. ”There are no two words in the English language more harmful than "good job".” -Whiplash, Terence Fletcher, J.K.
