Who’s cooking my food? Tolanath ‘Tola’ Kandel hails from Chitwan, Nepal and found his passion for cooking at an early age. Tola’s favourite food to cook is curry (very hot). Tola has a unique gift to make even the grumpiest chefs and managers smile. His constant enthusiasm and happy go lucky attitude definitely rubs off in a big way and that’s why we’re so happy to have him at our pub. When I saw that someone on Instagram was doing a Vietnamese Food Pop Up in San Francisco, I had to try it. Not just because it's Vietnamese food, but because I always support entrepreneurs. I tried not to be seen, but @anchoibep recognized me and we took a blurry picture together. She was serving Salted Egg Chicken Wings, Pickled Mangos, Old Bay Shrimp Chips, Chicken Pho Broth and her An Choi Chili Sauce.
🍽 Her food was really good. It kind of reminded me of having the munchies... I've never had salted egg yolk on deep fried chicken before. She did a good job breading and frying it. It had a very nice taste and it was crispy on the outside while tender in the inside. Her fried shrimp chips were seasoned with old bay and some other seasonings. I've never had it like this. It was very light, fluffy and crispy. Her pickled mangos were also very unique. It didn't taste sour or tangy, I can't even try to explain this great taste. Lastly, she had pho broth to go with the meal. Usually we eat it with noodles. Not her, she had it as soup. This girl knows how to eat and I'm glad I got to try her food. She pretty much perfected making Vietnamese munchies. She would make an awesome roommate.
