I’m 33 today! One of those ages that I admittedly had to do the math on to make sure that was the correct age, but I’m excited about it. I love birthdays. Not just for the gifts or celebrations or texts (although those are amazing and special) but for the opportunity to reflect.
We love a fresh start. A new year. New week. New month. New season. My planner has a monthly reflection that asks me to go back and assess how I spent my time each month. Am I happy with how I spent it? The things I prioritized? And, of course, it’s always a mix. I’m happy with some things and often surprised by others.
Because time moves quickly. With or without us. A year is a smaller percent of my life now than it was a year ago. And if we don’t take these moments to stop and reflect — we might get left behind. Where we don’t want to be.
So this year — like every year — I’m reflecting. How I spent my time. What I’m happy with. What I want to improve. Spending time listing the thinks I’m grateful for. The people who have contributed to my year. And realizing that while a lot of things can change in a year, a lot of things stay the same (for many years — swipe 😂).
I was looking back at old photos from this day and saw a note a student gave me 7 years ago. It said, “you had better be thankful you made it this far!” — I remember laughing when I got it, but I think about it often. I am so thankful I’ve made it this far. And thank you for being a part of it.
