Honor the Mother, and you honor Life 🔥
Imagine if all Mothers felt truly celebrated, empowered, and blessed as they prepare to birth their child. Imagine if her birth wasn't seen as chaos to be managed, but rather as an unfolding to trust and be patient with. What kind of a world would we live in if we took care of the most essential part of Life with reverance?
In the Navajo culture, they honor the Mother through a blessingway ceremony. I am not Navajo, so I enact a similar ceremony called a Mother Blessing. In this ritual, she is surrounded by her closest sisters, is prayed over, given gifts, and is shown who she can count on for help after the baby arrives.
Today, in our modernized culture, there is usually only a baby shower before the birth. While this is helpful to the new parents, it is even more crucial to celebrate her hard work stepping into Motherhood.
What are some ways you honor the ancient art of Birth? 🕸
