I’d like to say the journey so far with Kenny has been all sunshine and rainbows 🌈
And for the most part, it definitely has. He is the quietest, most gentle thoroughbred I have ever come across. There isn’t a lot that phases him and he’s been the biggest confidence booster for me.
We’ve definitely had our struggles over the last few weeks and made me question at times what I’m doing. Mostly, it’s the cost of keeping a horse in good condition over winter. I always said I understood how expensive horses are and I understood what was needed in the care of them (food, farrier, teeth, worming, vets, grazing, hay, clipping etc), but until I got Kenny I don’t think I really was prepared for just how much that would set me back. He’s not a naturally fat horse and I don’t have the spare cash to buy I horse that is easy to keep over winter, and actually I wouldn’t want to. I love Kenny and our relationship and the things that he is teaching me.
As a result of trying to fatten him up for winter, he’s out in a little herd with plenty of grass. And this has brought a whole new set of challenges which I’ve never really had to encounter before. My normally very quiet horse turned into a grass affected and attached little brat. Thankfully, I am now confident enough to not put up with his dramatics! But, that didn’t come easily. I had to push myself to get on the horse (who normally sleeps while I get on him) that was head tossing and pig rooting, and very forward. All of this probably sounds like another day for many of you experienced equine peps. But, for me it was hard to put my big girl pants on and do it. In doing so, I discovered I don’t mind a more forward and strong horse cause I now have the skills to deal with it and sit to it 🙌🏻 SO, while it’s not always easy, it is always worth it. (Sorry, bloody long caption from an amateur horse rider 😂)
That downward transition has me feelin some type of way! 💥😍 Look at him flick his whittle toes! 😭 Such a fancy man. 🎩 Excited to see Logan tonight after a little time off with the crazy storms. ⛈⛈⛈ It's been non stop raining since last Friday. 🙄
On a more personal note, sorry I've MIA for the past few days, big things are coming! Looking at either moving/living FULL TIME in a rv/van/tiny home! Been crazy couple of weeks shopping around for my next little abode. I can already imagine parking it right outside Logan's pasture. What do you guys think?! Would you ever go tiny? 🔎🏠
✨ some of my best friends never say a word to me ✨
The start you’ve already seen but the end he was alright. We can’t jump higher than that at home because the ground is crap ☹️ so I can only jump higher in lessons and when I compete ✌🏼
QOTD: favourite horse colour?
My #1 jumped her first oxer today!😍😭😍
So proud of her! It was so fun bc normally, we just pop over fences but when she realized that I'd aimed her towards a REAL jump her whole body lowered & tucked & we flew, baby.🌻🐴

🤓Flat work with the Big Ginge 🤓
Always room for improvement and constantly learning!! Couldn’t ask for a better horse 🥰 This years aim is to train hard for BHS stage one exams!! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 and hopefully see a ton of improvement in my own ridding whilst doing so 🤠
What an insane progress in our lunge work!!! Swipe to see where we started back in 2015. The last 6 months it has been crazy how much Bente has developed! This really shows how much power and drive she has now. She offers me canter transitions and bucks and plays with me in every single move i make. I remeber Bente being a part of an experiment, where she was needed to be lunged in all 3 gaits. We literally had to be 2 to lunge her to make her canter. And now she's asking again and again in the trot if she can canter, and when i say go, only by voice and bodymovement, she explodes forward 💥 and look at that neck?! A thing i couldn't even make her do while riding her, because of her poor balance and strenght. And now she does it by herself, no extra equipment to force that position of her neck and you can see her back muscles working. I'm so proud ❤ next step is to keep the canter a bit longer, it will never be her favorite gait, but wow she has learned a lot after all!
like and comment for a return :)
don’t have a lot to say today, I haven’t rode since Sunday lol. we’re getting so close to 10k and i’m hyped tysm for the support❣️
i’m currently trying to figure out a posting schedule so:
QOTD: how many days should I post a week? what days?
