Thursday 21st - Saturday 23rd March
We have spent the last 2 days getting totally, wonderfully lost in the maze of streets, lane ways, squares & by the legendary canals that make up Venice (we walked 10.6km the 1st day, 16.7km yesterday & 4.5km just this morning, it’s effortless here)! And while you may at times feel lost, it’s all too easy to wind your way back again; even if you do have to stop for cappuccino or gelato to refresh yourself. Hey when in Venice right! 😁
There really is breathtaking beauty around every corner. The food is incredible, the architecture amazing (although Dave did note they could’ve used a straight edge)😂 bridges of all kinds are abundant, the language musical & the photo opportunities simply too many to capture.
Dogs of every size & description are being walked by many Venetian’s, & while there is no pollution from cars as hands carts are used to transport everything, smoking is still a popular pass time here (by the end of the day its all I could smell) & many of the women wear furs, I’m sure I saw Cruella Deville.
The highlight was our Gondola ride, so very peaceful & surreal, contrasted by the hawkers with their colourful street stalls & the sadness of the beggars, unfortunately there are many... Venicia is a romantically beautiful city, dazzling by day and totally enchanting by night! One that I would happily return to again & again.
Ciao for now 😘
I lost my dad last year. Our relationship was far from perfect - yet he was one of maybe three people I'd call with exciting news, a cool discovery, or just to pass the monotony of a long drive. ⠀
We were 5000 miles away, touring Europe and introducing June to my extended family. He knew we had a super early flight from London to Venice, and though we’d just FaceTimed the day before I woke up to one last text: "love you guys". ⠀
Something startled me awake on the plane. I remember it distinctly, feeling disoriented and slightly panicked. Then I looked out the window. The snow covered majesty of the Alps brought instant peace. Matterhorn reached up towards us, almost close enough to touch. ⠀
Late that night I got a phone call. ⠀
I’ve never bothered to calculate the time zone differences, and hesitate to imbue that moment on the plane with deeper meaning, but whenever I dwell on that terrible day, that image of the Alps fills my mind. So there's that. ⠀
This was taken the following day, aimlessly wandering in a trance-like state, somewhere in Venice. ⠀

#eurotrip2018#europe#trip#viajantes#amoviajar#piazzasanmarcos#photograph#travel#photography#veneza #amoviajar#viajar#wanderlush#venicelife#Venezia#lupelomundo#pontedossuspiros#euvoudejanela#canals#italy 🇮🇹 #travelphotography#viajeigalera
