Driving through Saskatchewan, Canada - on our trans Canadian road trip. So much farming in these parts.
If I was doing this drive again, it’d have to be in a Land Rover 😆
Yes, my phone camera lens does have a mark on it - that’s a permanent water mark now 😔
Revy got me thinking about the rain. It got me thinking about how quickly we judge things as right or wrong, good or bad. We arrived to a very rainy Revy last Sunday morning, gutted as most of our plans were to do with hiking. Our frowns were the people of Revelstoke's joy. BC suffers from some pretty gnarly forest fires in the summer so every bit of rain they can get now helps. We don't have the right to categorise things as universally and concretely good or bad when we only have our perspective to work with. Think about a sound. When you really fully tune into noise, every noise has a beginning and an end. We cannot control how long the rain will stick around for but we can control our attitude towards it while it's here. Isn't the sun always 10x better after a bit of rain anyway!? #therealstoke
This beautiful native design was painted as street art on a car park wall in Newfoundland. It is about three metres high. I wish I knew more about it. [EDIT: I looked it up and apparently the symbol is actually from the Russian coat of arms. The Russians were some of the first European people to make contact with the native peoples of North America and they gave them a coat of arts as a gift of treaty. Symbols like that have a great value in the native culture there and rights to use them are traded. It became a symbol of friendship and brotherhood. 🙏] #newfoundland#stjohns#canada#canadaadventure#druidsdownunderupover#streetart

Newfoundland, in our family, is like a mythical land of the ancestors. Tales are told, places are reminisced about, accents and migration histories are explained. Life was simple and really hard but the people were good and strong. My husband’s parents are both from there so even though he was born in mainland Canada he maintains a sense of the place being really important to who he is. We had a diversion of our flight between Halifax and London last night and ended up with a day’s stop over in St Johns in Newfoundland. The silver lining was getting a chance to see this fabled land and get a closer feel for the stories of our family. It’s quite a spectacular place lined with colourful houses and quaint fishing villages. I’m glad we got to see it. #ancestralconnections#newfoundland#themotherland#stjohns#canada#canadaadventure#druidsdownunder#druidsdownunderupover#thebrettfamily
