Travelling makes you do things you would never do in your regular 9-5. It doesn’t just push you out of your comfort zone, it quite literally hurls you halfway across the world from it until you don’t remember really having one.
So here I am.
In Melbourne, after landing in Sydney a year ago, sofasurfing, living in Dee Why, then Waterloo, then going up the east coast, to my first Farm, then back to Sydney, then back up to Queensland for a second farm, then a third farm, then down to Melbourne, helping one family for 4 weeks, another for 2, and now working with my third lovely family, feeling very welcomed and very lonely all at once. Every move means you start from scratch. A total loner.
So I take to Facebook, where another girl posts a similar story, and underneath are now around 40+ comments, all of us feeling the same way: happy to be exploring, able to enjoy our own company, but missing our tribe, our girl gang, our sisters.
So on Tuesday night I headed into Flinders Street to meet 15 other girls, and am happy to say that now, I don’t feel alone, I can make plans for weekend trips, and camping and exploring. I can ask for advice, or listen and offer some. And best of all: I remember how to laugh! And hey, turns out I can still be funny (and not just for 5 yet olds!)
The only downside: this family only needs me for another 3 weeks, and if I get the job I’m hoping for I’ll be moving to Adelaide and having to start from scratch all over again!
Vlog recorded after one month in Geneva.
When someone moves abroad, you only see the best bits on social media. It leads to the perception that it's a really easy thing to do. I wanted to be honest about my experience in Switzerland, so I thought I'd just talk openly about the challenges🇨🇭 If you're thinking about moving abroad, or have been through it yourself, please reach out and tell me about your experiences. I would love to hear them.
Views from inside and on the wet observation deck on the @skyspacela building today. The external glass slide was closed due to rain. And to add to the excitement, we were evacuated from the 54th floor just prior to getting to the observation deck. Down 15 flights of stairs, then finding a lift down to the lobby, when the alarms had been called off. Then all the way back to the top to start again. #holidays#Sightseeing#LosAngeles#LA#BritAbroad
A chilly but clear winter morning at a rocky bay near Kintra on the Isle of Mull. The light is always wonderful at this time of year in Scotland, adding a touch of golden glow (if not much in the way of actual warmth)
Just keep breathin in and breathin in, and breathin in and BREATHE IN! Seriously @cleverprimeuk TAKE THE GODDAMN PHOTO I’M TURNING BLUE! (Thank you, next) 😂🔪 I’m kidding. He’s actually a dream to work with. I wish he was back in London now so we could make some more work together with my shiny new scalp! Who else wants to shoot with me? 🤷🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️
