While hunting or scouting this time of year you’ll notice bare patches of dirt called scrapes. They usually have an over hanging branch that deer lick and rub their scent glands on. Deer will also pee and step in the bare patch after they paw it to leave more scent behind. They use scrapes as a form of communication to let other deer know they are in the area. Positioning yourself near a scrape is a great way to get a shot at a relaxed and a distracted deer. They’re another piece of the puzzle that you can use to get within bow range. #bowhunting#whitetail#deerhunting#publiclandhunting#bowhuntingwhitetails#hunting#huntingtips#bowseason#adventure#wildgame Photo 1 by: @johnhafnerphoto
This first photo isn’t new. It’s from last year. But I do most of my recreational activities alone so it can be hard to get new photos consistently. Oh well 🤷🏼♀️
However, the second photo is from yesterday. Grouping at 14 yards. I know that’s not too far but I’m still happy about it. I’m brand new to all this so it’s a massive learning experience.
My first hunt is the beginning of November with @fletcher_outdoors and I’m beyond excited for it! Time to get training into high gear. .
Who hunts solo? I’m a new hunter and so as of yet, have not met or made and ‘hunting buddies’ so I’m going out solo. The first morning I went out to sit in my stand, I was overwhelmed by an unexpected fear of walking into the dark woods by myself. I’m not sure what I am afraid of exactly...I have weapons on my person after all, so it’s not like I’m defenseless. I’m not exactly afraid of animals- in the northeast here, I am the apex predator. The only predator that trumps me? Men. (Not all of them of course, but it only takes one...) I’ve not had any encounters with other hunters, so I’m not quite sure where this fear comes from exactly. Perhaps my long-term prey instincts from 38 years as a female. Maybe that’s what attracted me to hunting- a chance to turn the tables and be the predator for a change. Curious your thoughts- a woman solo hunting- dumbass or badass? #bowhunting#huntingsolo#womanhunter#huntress#huntressview#artemisascendant
I knew this season would be tough from the start, with working full time and going back to school and trying to find the time to hunt. But man i'll tell ya what, the deer are really making me work for it this year. When I could only shoot does, I had bucks out or does with fawns, when I can shoot either I only have youngins' out. They're not giving it up easy this year but that's okay...persistence pays off and I'm not giving in anytime soon. I need to fill that freezer🤞🏹🎯 #itsgonnahappen#induetime#bowhunting#girlswhohunt
