Travel appreciation post!
Punta Cana-Bahamas-North Carolina- Mexico. I haven’t been to many places but when I do go I value every little moment. Traveling opens you up to so many new things, places, people, cultures, & experiences. I can’t wait until it becomes a regular thing for me. Also on my list is Australia, Hawaii, Tahiti, the Maldives, & Colorado.
We're almost ready to sail our first voyage for 2019. We are sailing with a private group for this sail and we are excited to show them the many wonders of Seychelles. #YachtWeekEA#YachtWeekEast Africa

Can't even express how I feel being able to take Isaiah to the continent of Africa! For this trip, we went to South Africa. We will definitely visit more countries. Best pic we got (so far). More adventures to come. We still out here. I'm just excited he now wants to visit again. MY BLACK SON WANTS TO EXPLORE AFRICA ***psa - black people, we can only say Africa if we are talking about the continent as a whole, if not... say the country! Two days ago, Michael Jackson’s nephew, #TajJackson pointed out that #HBO had changed their description of the Leaving Neverland documentary - *SWIPE* ⏭ to see the tweets!!! _________
4/10/19, news came out that HBO had pulled the #LeavingNeverland Documentary and people noticed that Oprah had deleted the interviews with the accusers from her Youtube Channel! #Oprah told Vanity Fair that she has never received so much "hateration" and defended her support of the documentary- “I realized that a lot of people are going to be triggered by watching it, and that a lot of people will not understand what the pattern is . . . it’s not about one person, it is about the pattern. It is about the seduction. And people call it molestation, but there is a big seducing that goes on . . . that was important enough for me to take the hateration for.” (Oprah to Vanity Fair, 4/11/19 article)
Cheat codes to Zanzibar Beaches 🙌🏾
Hey fam! So Zanzibar is amazing. I'm not sure who could go there and not be immediately romanced by it. That said, this island is jam-packed with options. I'll attack the question of Stone Town versus Beach Resort in another post, but for now let's unpack the beaches. 🌊
Having visited literally every beach area in Zanzibar in search of the perfect place for future @blacktravelfest excursions, I have strong opinions on this (I took notes lol). I'd say that Nungwi and Kendwa are neck and neck in terms of water color (i.e., all shades of blue you can fathom), sand quality (so white and fine under your feet), and options of where to stay. Kendwa comes out slightly ahead. Here's why, if you stay in Kendwa you can enjoy basically the same beach experience at all times of the day regardless of the tide, whereas in Nungwi many of the resorts lose their beaches at high tide. Also, the prices in Kendwa are a bit more reasonable. ☀️
The next beach I'd say is worth a try is on the east side of the island, by the name of Pongwe. It's beautiful at high tide; however, during low tide the water recedes so far from shore that you can literally walk for close to a mile before hitting water again. It's kind of cool to see, but if you are looking for all day crystal blue vibes this may not be for you. If you're out and about during the day this isn't a big deal. One other challenge is the seaweed (lol won't get into that), but there are some really nice affordable all-inclusive resorts on this end if that's what you're after. Hopefully that's enough of a crash course to get ya'll moving in the right direction. #deirdredareszanzibar 😇
🌎TRAVEL IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL🌎
Many of you ask how I started my blog & how we're living this life. Let me tell you it ain't easy! I started this IG in April 2016 while on maternity leave with Kennedy. My friend Paula encouraged me to. I told her it was stupid & I had nothing to offer. She said Monet do you know how many parents think traveling with kids is impossible? She said she'd seen me over the last two years on the go with Jordyn & it was powerful. I decided to give it a go.
I orginally started reposting other families traveling but decided I wanted it to be more personal & helpful. I didn't want to just show parents traveling with kids I wanted to teach parents how to make it affordable and easier so I started my website.
Let me tell you, I had no idea what I was doing. I started on Weebly because I am the least tech savvy person on earth. I am legit your grandma asking how to send a text 🤷🏾.Thankfully this year I redesigned my site & moved it to WordPress 🙌🏾. My writing wasn't the best, I look back at old posts & cringe. But I kept writing & it has gotten better!
I was working FT time, being a wife & mom of 2 who are 21 months apart so I was busy! I spent my lunch break working on my blog. I started taking the bus to work to blog on my 90min commute & save money! I turned down invites to hang out.
It wasn't until 2 years in that we got our first sponsored opportunity. Nothing about this road is easy & overnight successes are rare.
I wanted to quit many times but really the only difference between the people that make it & don't is those that do make it never gave up. If you have a dream don't not do it because there are "so many others doing it". That sure didn't stop Rihanna & Fenty Beauty. Your voice & style is unique & your experiences aren't the same as any other persons. Whatever life you want is possible, it just won't come easy!
I am happy to say our hard work has afforded me the ability to leave my FT job. I quit last month after finding a PT remote job where I work T-Th, hello 4 day wknds! I get to spend more time with the girls & work on The Traveling Child. I'm claiming that one day I'll be able to quit tia PT jobs too!
