I watched the movie Five Feet Apart with @mrslindseyroman last week. I sat in the theater and sobbed so hard my chair was shaking. (It was rough 😭😂) I never normally watch movies like that. But when your pregnant best friend says “please” you sometimes give in. (Key word, Lindsey: “sometimes.”)
At the end of the movie, someone says something along the lines of, “we need human touch. It’s how we express joy. How we comfort when we’re scared. How we show affection. And you don’t realize just how much you can communicate in a single touch until you’re not able to hold the person you love. So if you’re able, tell the ones closest to you how much you love them. Hold their hand. Give them a hug. Reach out. You won’t realize how powerful a simple touch can be until it’s taken from you.”
Obviously, yes, I was sobbing my freaking eyes out. And my heart keeps coming back to those words. God keeps whispering to my heart this truth: “don’t forget to value the people around you.” The friends, the family, the special someone’s. Don’t get so caught up in the whirlwind of life that you forget to slow down, look those people in the eyes (or give them a text or call if you’re far apart!) and say even a simple, “thank you for being here. I love you.”
Love is such a gift. Friendship is a joy beyond words. Family can’t even be compared. Just a reminder on your Sunday to pause, be thankful, and reach out to those who mean the most to you.
Go reach out to someone today. If you’re nearby, just give them a hug, or tell them you’re thankful for them. If they’re far away, shoot them a text, or give them a call. Make time to nurture those relationships today.
Hi babes! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I’m so excited because I just uploaded my first travel vlog on @youtube from our mini getaway to Monterey last weekend. Visit the link in my bio for some epic views and behind the scenes footage of the photos I posted this past week (including when I accidentally touched bird poop). #vanessaevelyntravels
It’s been a while since I’ve gone on an old-fashioned road trip/photo adventure just for fun. Life happens and responsibilities pile up. Fire season comes and goes, and it’s easy to forget the joy in simply getting lost and being in the moment, exploring, and having the ride be about the journey and not the destination. It’s important to remember the sense of natural wonder that brought me into photography and writing. Yesterday was one of those days, taking me from coastal Orange County to the wildflowers of Carrizo Plain, to the rugged and foggy coastline of Big Sur, and now today to California Wine Country. Make time for what sparks your creativity and inspires.

Every bend of the road affords a new overwhelming view. I stopped every couple miles all the way down Highway 1 on my way to the Eastern Sierras this afternoon. Saltwater, wind, wildflowers and sun.
