Do you ever take a moment to make dinner special at home? I’m not talking about fancy place settings or gourmet meals. Although Ray would be thrilled 😁. I’m talking about little touches that make time together feel special. Grabbing inspiration from other places and recreating it at home is what I love to do! There’s nothing more simple than store bought flowers and a mason jar for a vase! I took all kinds of inspiration will at the @deltafaucet event in Indy! This dinner at The Loft Restaurant @traderspointcreamery was amazing and I love the simple details. It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful as @thenester says!! It can be take out dinner but still made special. I’d love to hear all of your tips for making dinner special. .
She has our grandmother’s face. And grit. And humor. And fire. Whenever we look at Mary we can’t help but think of her, and remember how much she had to do with all of this. If fact, both of our grandmothers led us to the flower farm. One a creative genius whose imagination carried her soul, and the other a plucky matriarch with a *very* green thumb and unyielding determination to provide for her family. Both of these women are more than just our heroes, they are who we are. There’s so many things not just around us, but within us that reminds us everyday how we got here, and the small pieces of them that made it all possible. We miss them always, but remain alert, looking for the little signs of them in our journey. For everything, we thank the grandmothers. ~S
Pressed Peony!! Remember June....the sun shining.....Peonies in bloom.....Peonies in wedding bouquets. I pressed numerous Peonies over the summer. Now I get to bring them back, one petal at a time. Look at this little lovely and reminisce back to June. ❤🍃❤

Exciting farm news! We are on the radio! My sweet friend @jenathan came to visit the farm, and because Jen is amazing, she wanted to understand the gnarly bits of what I do. There are many. I love the title she gave the piece, which references “building a farm from scratch.” If you have never developed raw land before, you cannot know how hard it is. I tried to tell someone once and they didn’t believe me until they tried to do it. I think now they know! Electricity and plumbing and roads and drainage are luxuries that you don’t completely understand until you don’t have them.
The property in the picture is the farm’s sister property. It’s where @joshcopuspottery works. I have permanent gardens there for perennials and show plants. When Josh bought this property 11 years ago or more, it was a swamp. Talk about building something from scratch. I have been lucky to have his help at the farm. And his perspective taught me a little bit about what I was getting myself into so at least I didn’t go crazy once I got started.
A used to be a journalist, and now I am a farmer. The transition was not always easy for my friends and family to comprehend. I do not think they thought I was serious. I knew I was serious. I couldn’t of done it if I wasn’t completely serious. But it’s been an interesting time lately to see the transition that is happening in the people around me. Now they know that I am serious. Now they know that I am a farmer. There are people I know now who have only ever known me as a farmer. That’s pretty interesting to me, since being a journalist was a big part of my identity for nearly a decade.
I am so glad for this life that I share with Josh and with my community and friends. And I’m so glad to be a farmer. I hope you all will check out Jen‘s story to learn more about it! She really is a wonderful sound artist, interested in all the world’s rich sonic textures that make it such a joy to live in nature.
It’s a big week of announcements! I’ll have another one for you tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Cloudy and cool today; a great day for a Fresh bowl of Soup. I made an amazing soup yesterday using everything from the garden. It was so good, I want to share the recipe with you! Here’s what I put in it:
Swanson’s beef broth, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, garlic, parsley.
Toss into a pot and let boil.
In a pan, brown and soften an entire yellow onion with grape seed oil (you can use olive oil as well, I just prefer to cook with grape seed oil), then toss mixture into a Pot.
Then cut purple potatos (peter Wilcox variety. I choose the purple potato and this variety because it holds its shape the whole time it’s in the soup. It never just falls apart into the soup.) toss those into the pot, and add 3 slices American cheese, salt to taste and a couple shakes of black pepper.
Once veggies were tender, I used a whisk to ‘smash’ the ingredients and whisked them. (you could purée them, but I like my vegetables to still hold some shape to add some chunkiness to the soup.)
Then it’s ready to serve!
Best Soup Ever!! Even the kiddos loved it! They literally licked their bowls clean!!
I served it with fresh baked bread for dipping! Enjoy!!

Basket of blooms 🍁 fall florals have officially taken over our studio and we couldn’t be more excited
When your friends surprise you & secretly get your wedding flowers preserved ... I’d definitely say those are some really thoughtful friends. 💓 In love with how these two frames turned out. So much love in those flowers! 💐
I’ve been listening to @msrachelhollis new book, #girlwashyourface (Thanks @meredithmckee for recommending her!) via @audible_com because you know my hands are busy making flowers 🌸 ✂️💕
Can I say how inspiring and real Rachel is! Also, I started to listen to her podcast @letsrise.co too.
In a recent post, she said, “It’s possible to feel calm and energized even when life is crazy - but only if I’m centered and grounded.” This is so true. One thing I am doing is going to bed early and each day I’m waking up a little bit earlier. From the moment I wake up, I am constantly thinking of all the to-do list that I have to do, the commitments I made to the people around me and my clients. I’m constantly striving to do my best and be on top of my game. I have a planner that I wrote everything down, I have a support group that donates time to help me reach my goal. I am so lucky my husband, family and friends support me on my paper flower journey, and most importantly I have each of you that show up on my feed, comment, subscribe and cheer me on. I love each of you so much and feel so grateful that I can do what I love, and you support me. You guys ground me and motivate me to do better, so thank you so much. 😘💕💕💕

Foraging through my yard this morning finding subtle colors of fall. .
Look familiar? Pinterest is such a fun inspiration tool for weddings. In fact, when my clients don't share a Pinterest board with me, I sometimes end up making one for them! (This board is for my friend Paul). But there's a line between inspiration and duplication that a good floral designer won't cross--I've shared a little about that before but you can read more about it on my blog today! (Link in my profile)
It's no doubt that chrysanthemums are a fall staple, so why not get creative with them this year? If you happen to have an old bicycle around or can pick one up cheap, they can make the perfect showcase for a bunch of colorful fall mums. Attach baskets using hooks or wire and enjoy! Try other vintage containers or finds to display plants for a truly unique look. Tap the link in our bio for more creative ways to display your mums this year 💕 #getgrowing#bhgflowers

Window Box Update! Last month we went on a vacation up north and when I got back I lost a few varieties in the window box. So I pulled out the varieties that were dying, and I trimmed back other varieties that were looking too wild. Now, this week they are looking great again! I really wanted to do some really cute fall window boxes this year, but it is so hard to pull these guys!
I am so tired in all the best ways tonight! I had the pleasure of doing this exterior design today for a client. I am so inspired to work on my own porch after a good night of sleep 😴 🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂
If you want to check out the full porch click the link tree in my bio and head over to the blog!
Sweet dreams friends!! ♥️ #myhomevibe
Did you see my IG stories? Boxes of fresh flowers arrived today from @petaldriven ...and I was in flower heaven! Just look at all these gorgeous rich, colors...my Fall color palette! I am looking forward to styling my mantle and tables with these blooms. I also shared a little trick for keeping hydrangeas fresh longer.
