There is something especially precious about being in the presence of a killer whale (Orcinus orca) calf. Here, young Guardian (T002C4), almost breaches as he pushes himself high out of the water while surfacing to breathe. Sadly, marine apex predators like killer whales have a very high infant mortality rate, as toxins bioaccumulate in their fatty tissues. As the oceans become more and more polluted, survival for young whales like Guardian becomes less and less likely. Now, more than ever, we need to stand up and become our own guardians for our oceans, before we lose this incredible species all together.
