Can’t believe how much I miss good old blighty 🇬🇧 since arriving in NZ, but while we’re in this amazing country it is great to be able to drive a few minutes down the road and be able to take in this unbelievable scenery #beautifulnewzealand#wellington#expatlife
*Pic: Scott Murray in the Mokihinui River with 1080 pellets that fell from the sky on his American guests and him “It was like big hail drops hitting the water around us,” said New Zealand trout fishing guide Scott Murray who is a co-owner of River Haven Lodge near Murchison.
It was no ordinary hail storm. The ‘big hail drops’ were toxic 1080 pellets.
The 1080 drop was a joint effort by Ospri for possum “control” and the Department of Conservation’s “Battle for Our Birds” predator control programme. It was December 2, 2016 when Scott and his two guests helicoptered into the Mokihinui River that enters the Tasman Sea north of Westport on the west coast of NZ’s South Island. The upper reaches in the river’s north and south branches are of wilderness character. Also in the area the same day was Zane Mirfin a Nelson guide and two guests. Zane Mirfin’s Californian client was incredulous when Zane explained what the aerial bombardment with 1080 pellets was about.
Meanwhile Scott Murray and a 91-year-old Californian client and nephew had just landed from their helicopter in the Mokihinui valley when they saw other choppers carrying buckets loaded with 1080 green pellets. Next moment poison-laced pellets started ‘plip-plopping’ into the water around them.
Emotions naturally ran high. Scott Murray was angry while his guests were shocked and incredulous at the helicopters indiscriminately dropping poisoned pellets around. The pellets landed in the water and over the river flats and ridges of the valley. Afterwards his shocked client debated whether he would ever return to New Zealand following the incident. Swipe for the panoramic view of the beautiful Opera Point in @thecoromandel 👉👉 This place is one of those you fall in love with immediately, though struggle to explain what was so special about it after. Was it that see-through calm turquoise water? Or the magic of the morning light shining through the trees? Or the fact that we were the only people there? Or may be it’s all because of its unusual shape that makes you feel like being on a tiny island? I honestly don’t know... What I do know is that you should definitely add it to your bucket list! 💙💙
Memories of New Zealand - Peter's Pool is a small lake on the way to Franz Josef Glacier. It has totally quiet waters that beautifully reflect surrounding mountains. There used to be seen a glacier's nose between the rocks about 100 years ago, but today you have to walk several more kilometers to see it.
Wellington 1080 Protest at Parliament, never heard about it?? That’s because the NZ Government own the poison factory and put media blackouts on the 42 simultaneous protests which happened throughout New Zealand!!! Ecotoxin compound 1080 is leaching it’s way into New Zealand’s food chain, it’s been found in butter ( see news article) wild pork ( Kochummen family) see you tube links which has a letter from toxicologist. Watch bees landing on a cow that has died from 1080 poisoning see video link below for footage and of course our drinking water supplies. With over 20 doctors asking for an immediate halt to aerial 1080 drops due to of the known and unknown health risks. ‘
Studies show that 1080 affects the reproductive organs, the cardiac system, and respiratory system in mammals. There is no safe minimal level known and water testing and sampling after aerial 1080 application cannot prudently protect the public from risk of exposure from this poison.’ There have also been reports of animals dying from poisoning in the back of stock trucks on the way to the meat works, how many times have they made it there??? With the government increasing the 1080 by 8 times this spring, dropping safety buffer zones from 200m to 50m expect more to come with them working towards an unachievable ‘predator 2050’ expect a lot more poison to turn up in our food and water!! A little rant ahead🙂
Looking through my account, I realise how Instagram has influenced so many posts and I’m pretty disappointed in myself. I wanted to keep it realistic yet I have photos taken at just the right angle/lighting because I thought it’s what inspires people. Yes, I like taking nice photos but it’s simply because I’m honestly just happy I finally grew a butt cos it’s been an insecurity for so long and has been and still is a goal for myself since I can’t grow boobs🤷🏼♀️😂 But I forget that people see my posts and have their own reaction to it. One thing I dont want is for people to say “she doesn’t even look like that in real life”😭😂
It’s hard to remember that Instagram is just smoke and mirrors a lot of the time and it creates the high expectations we have for ourselves.
Looking at this photo, I was a little reluctant to post because all I kept thinking about is, “I don’t even have abs. Whats the point in posting it” like, what a dumb way to think of yourself that having abs means you’ve conquered the fitness journey or that it shows your hard work😂 I love food too much so my diet isn’t 100% but thats not the point😭
Instagram was the reason I became so wrapped up in the idea that I had to look a certain way or I’m not really progressing or inspiring others. It made me realise how distorted it is and it’s sad that it’s a reason why so many people feel so insecure out there, like myself.
I love people who post the reality of the fitness journey; the early mornings, the meal preps, the self control, struggles, sacrifices and consistency while maintaining balance and happiness. Progress doesn’t happen overnight and let’s not forget how genetics play a part. Like, I’ve been serious with gym for maybe 2 years now and I’m still not where I want to be. It’s easier said than done but trust in the process. Surround yourself with like-minded people and strive for your own goals. Learn the difference between constructive and destructive criticism. It’s a hard journey and you will get what you work for. Just remember that this journey is for you, no one else. Also, most of my posts are little reminders for myself as well☺️
What a place 😍 I’ve always wanted to go to Iceland and honestly this, from what I can tell, is the closest I’ve been to experiencing what it would be like. Rough ocean, cold wind and the most rugged yet beautiful landscapes 🏔 so proud to call this place home ❤️
