S L E E P T R A I N I N G - We are about to embark on a fun little adventure that I know is the right decision for my little girl. Since Valentina was born, we’ve been very lucky with her sleeping habits. She started sleeping pretty well through the night around 2 months of age with 1-2 feedings per night then she’d drift right back to sleep. Once she hit 6 months, that all went out the window. The last week or so she has been constipated so I figured that must be why she’s waking up in the night but I’ve come to realize that my methods for getting her to sleep are probably the real issue. I’m guilty of nursing her or rocking her to sleep most of the time as that is just the smoothest and fastest way for her to go to sleep. Now that she’s waking up in the night and she can’t self soothe back to dreamland, I know I can no longer delay this sleep training thing. No more 30 minute naps and sleepless nights! I will let you know how she progresses in the next couple of weeks and when it’s all said and done, I will write a blog post on my experience. If you have any tips of advice, I’d love to hear it! .
Getting away from this crazy cold weather? Going somewhere in a different time zone? My suggestion when travelling to an area in a different time zone is to simply jump into the new time zone and treat it like an ordinary day at home. It may take a few days for things to adjust, but sleep will get on track within a few days in your new place of travel. When you return home, simply jump back into your home time zone.

It’s looking like a rainy and cold weekend here in Houston! Does anyone secretly like weekends like that? 🙋🏼♀️ No? Just me? I just love staying in my PJs and having slow mornings and cold rainy weather feels like a permission slip for that! Whatever you have planned for the weekend, I hope it involves baby cuddles and fun coffee mugs!
Also, if you haven’t signed up for our group sleep training class for 3-5 month olds on 1/27, make sure you do that this weekend too! You truly don’t want to miss it!
Good morning! Or is it.... 🤤
Technically we've been more or less awake since 6.
This week has been killer when it comes to sleeping. He's been going down between 7-8, then waking up at 1 SCREAMING (like wake the neighbours screaming), I give him a 2oz bottle and then bring him into bed with me (he won't go back in the crib at this time). Then he wakes up again at 430, tossing and turning and crying, nothing but another 3oz bottle helps. Putting him down after this is rough and has taken me 30-45 minutes a couple times this week. I put him in his crib and then he gets back up, at least twice. Finally he's down until about 730, when he gets his morning bottle and I may or may not be able to get another hour sleep. He gets more than enough to eat during the day, his smallest amount this week was 28oz.
And I'm pumping 530-6AM.
📣📣Calling all #8monthsold mamas. 📣📣
▪️Is this the 8 month sleep regression I'm hearing about?
▪️Is it because he had a cold earlier in the week?
▪️Is it teething?
▪️Is it because he's going into leap 6 soon?
▪️Is it all of the above? 🙉🙈🙊
Good thing sleep is over rated, right? 🙁
How can you tell when it’s time to put your newborn in her baby box to nap? 😴
💫 SLEEPY CUES 💫
Did you know your newborn can TELL YOU when she’s tired (and overtired)? Swipe to see how!
Tag a new parent! This is such valuable information for #TakingCaraNaps!
Examples of sleepy cues include: Yawning, turning away from stimulation, blank stares, and fussiness. Swipe for more.
Why are they so important??
For newborns (3 months and younger), we have to be very aware of sleepy cues because an overtired newborn can have so much trouble falling asleep AND staying asleep. We even begin to see colic-like symptoms with overtired babies. 😱😱😱
👉🏻This is important...For babies over 3 months, we need to balance sleepy cues with the time on the clock. (You'll learn more about this tomorrow, so stay tuned!)
In the newborn class (link in bio), I‘ll show you how to read your little one’s sleepy cues and what to do when you see them. You may be surprised to hear that many parents tell me their babies, who suffered from colic, were so much happier after implementing the tips from the newborn class.
Sometimes overtired babies mimic colicky babies.
What sleepy cues do you notice with your baby?

Things are brewing here, folks…
Lots of good stuff and lots of great information that I’m SO excited to share with you. (SO excited!) First things first — recognize that little image above? Well, if you were reading my series in Binah Magazine back in the spring you might…
And yep: you’re thinking right!
Check your local newsstands (ie grocery story 🤣 - or is it only Chicago that works like that?) next week for your copy of my first column installment in Binah!
This one is a good one - and I’m doing one of my favorite things: mythbashing! —
And some other fun and exciting news [swipe for flyer] - specifically for all y’all Chicagoans, is that I’ll be presenting a session on “Sleep Training, Shmeep Traning!” in a session that will be in support for The Family Fund.
The Family Fund is working to radically change the way families are impacted by having a new baby. How? $$$$ Yes, really.
I’m sure you know someone - we all do! - who has to go back to work after 6 weeks (or even less sometimes) even though they are nowhere NEAR ready to be going back.
And when that happens, everyone suffers.
Mom suffers by being overwhelmed and overworked. She’s not fully recovered, and her body’s just not ready for the transition. She may get sick (like a friend of mine JUST did after going back at 6 weeks), she may feel inadequate, and she may take a whooooole lot longer to clean up if she hasn’t yet.
And if Mommy is feeling overwhelmed, sick, inadequate, whatever it is — everyone else is going to be impacted. Many mothers’ work environments don’t allow for regular, easy pumping, so many mothers end up transitioning to formula simply because they’re going back to work, even though they’d love to fully breastfeed for longer.
If she doesn’t have enough time to heal and get back to herself, she won’t be able to be there for her children - the baby and any others! the way she wants to (needs to!). And, of course, her marriage can suffer too.
But they feel like they don’t have a choice: money is tight, and Mommy’s job is essential for the family finances. So, ready or not, back to work she goes [continued in comments]

Posts like this make my heart nearly burst with love for the job I do! Before retraining as a child sleep consultant, I was, for many years, a lawyer specialising in criminal law. You wouldn’t think there were many parallels between those two careers but actually I find there are. For one, I typically come into someone’s life at a time when they feel quite vulnerable & that’s undoubtedly part of why I stay in touch with so many clients once we’ve completed our work together. The nature of the sleep-coaching process means that parents, in particular mums, share their vulnerability with me at an early stage. As a mum who has been there, I know how it feels & am able to utterly respect the doubt, fear & desperation that not being to help your child sleep can evoke. As a sleep professional, I’m now also able to tell those mums, “You’ve got this - & I’ve got you” & help them navigate their way back to better rest for their whole family. What a privilege! #happyfriday#clientfeedback#sleepdeprived#sleepmatters#toddlersleep#babysleep#gentlesleepcoach#tiredmama

The perfect sleep sack for the minimalist mama. Simplicity in the finest things, like our linen sleep sacks.
Balancing the sleep needs of a baby can really be a struggle when you have other responsibilities - whether that be siblings, work, or the like.
Today Mabel woke up earlier than usual and I knew she’d have to wait for her first nap so I could lug everyone to take Stella to school. I put her down as soon as we got back but she still struggled a bit because she was overtired. I hate to do that to her, but sometimes I just don’t have a choice!
I know many of you are in the same boat sometimes, and you can only do what you can do. Whenever possible we stick to her schedule and let her sleep when she needs it, so these off days are a bit easier to handle knowing they won’t always be like this.
It’s here but we only have 50 sets ❤️

One of the biggest challenges for parents is getting their baby or
toddler to sleep well away from home. A comfortable and portable
infant travel bed can be the key to your success.
The Portable Baby Bed is the perfect complement to your baby
hammock. You can take the bed with you anywhere, so you can
guarantee that your child will be 100% safe no matter your location.
The bed is adjustable to fit infants of all sizes and can save your child's
life. That's because the shape of the portable baby bed imitates the infant's embryo period and has an anti-rollover shaping pillow.
Safe and comfortable for all infants.
Lightweight — Let’s face it — you are going to be toting this travel crib around, so it is advantageous to choose a lightweight travel crib, that doesn’t sacrifice other key features.
Easy to Assemble — It could be late at night when you arrive at your hotel, vacation rental or Grandma’s house. Your baby or toddler will be tired and you don’t want to go to war with your portable travel cot. The best travel baby bed should set up as easily as promised by the manufacturer.
Washable — Sh*t happens. It really does. While rarely necessary, when disaster strikes, a washable travel bed is a blessing.
Breathable — For safety reasons, it is very important that a portable baby crib for travel or an infant travel bed have proper venting and breathable fabric.
Reduces risk of a flat head syndrome.
Mimics the shape of a pregnant woman's uterus.
Reduces risk factors associated with SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)

💤FACTORS, EFFECTING BABY SLEEP💤
Melatonin is sleep hormone, what producing by humans body itself. This process is possible only in darkness, because in light surrounding it’s will be disturb.
Child start produce this hormone at an age of 6 weeks old. That’s why till this time baby might be confused where is day, where is night.
That’s why for all babies group age we need to make room as dark as possible as for naps(9 points out of 10), as for night sleep(10 points out of 10). .
2️⃣ Room and body temperature:
Overheat is more worst for baby body than cold. Many parents try to overheat baby body without knowledge that it’s can actually damage child health and quality of his rest. If child is wearing too hot suit, caps & glows, this will lead to overheat. Overheat itself leads to dry out of all mucous membranes, what will make baby body and immune system unable to fight with infection or virus.
Many babies doesn’t like a blankets - in this case better to wear just warm night suit, but not overheat baby.
How to understand that baby is overheated? You need to touch baby skin little down his neck, if this area having pleasant normal temperature - then baby is fine. Baby hand/legs temperature or hiccup isn’t a right way to measure a temperature.
The most suitable room temperature for quality sleeps - 22 degree Celsius and 40-60% humidity. .
3️⃣ Sound pollution:
The level of sound that can disturb child sleep will be different for each baby. Mostly kids who sensitive to sound, sleeping better with “white noise”. Simply saying its sound of fen and vacuum cleaner, running water.
White noise reminds sound of running blood in mother womb to kids.
It’s recommended to on a fen to all day naps (leave it for all nap duration) as well for night sleep time (off after 20 min once child sleeping deep or leave it for night long). Distance to source of white noise should be minimum 1.5 meter. .
4️⃣ Visual disturbance:
Bright colour of bed sheets in baby crib, toys what hanging up in crib, music, display of mobiles, tv - will disturb child sleep. It’s recommended to have baby room filled with natural “earth” colours, with minimum of electronic.
