Clients for me range from 12 year old to 77 year olds.
I have amazing conversations with the 12 year olds and amazing conversations with the 77 year olds.
This is where I see the art in coaching. Finding ways to communicate and help people from all walks of life and in different stages of their life.
I have clients wanting to destroy their body and the streets and I have clients who want to survive a few more years of this precious life.
And my job is not to judge but to help them as best as I can.
Here is a snippet with one of my older clients, I had him doing a squatting variation. And couldn’t get him in the position I wanted so I added this drill.
1. I pulled him out of where we were.
2. I got him to relax.
3. I had him feel what i wanted him to feel in the squatting variation.
We walked back after that and he nailed it. #coachledesma
2013||2018 💀 145lbs || 161lbs -------
Maaan, I've been through 🎵changes🎵. Lol. Honestly though, I've also been heavier after both pregnancies. I think the snapback was inevitable, as I've never been one to just "let myself go" but it was NOT quick. It was a learning process rummaging through just piles & piles of bullshit. Good Lord, there's SO. MUCH. BULLSHIT. 🙄 On the left, I was doing keto & IF, which I really am not going to go on about but essentially what I did was reduce daily caloric intake sooo... not magic. But, you know, I do think the normal process is trial & error, & i'm still learning. Always learning. But my main reason for sharing this is to share some takeaways which, really, are simple & mine:
🔸️ I prefer the 161 pound me. Not just because I have more curves but because I am happier. I was pretty miserable on the left diet wise.
🔸️ There's no magic #. For a long time, I kept thinking "If I just get to 145.." & it's literally been years of climbing up on weight; massing slowly in order to not fuck with my mental health too badly (cus I still struggle climbing too quickly) & then cutting enough to feel good & maintain. It's been years of this. & I legit look at myself & see a long way to go but I see how far I've come even if, sometimes, it's just mentality wise. I'm actually looking forward to hitting 170 someday, more mass, less fluff. Ive seent it! & I want it.
🔸️ Overall, i'm a better trainer for it. Since then, I've taken up reading & listening to the people in the industry that know what the fuck they're talking about. & while I've gotten good at massing (haha - but really harder than it sounds), I still need help when cutting & so I enlist the help of RPstrength because, by myself, I lose too much muscle.
As for meeeeeee, I've decided that i'm buckling the fuck down & getting closer to what I want for myself in the next couple of months. I love me but i'm working on me. You can do both. There's always room for improvement. 💪😌
The best diet is the one you can sustain and the best time for waffles is all the time. For me, intermittent fasting has been a game changer as it affords me the flexibility to eat delicious food like this. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I got a few DMs about how I made these, so here’s the ingredient list: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
🥞@kodiakcakes Protein Mix⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
🥚One Egg ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🥛Almond Milk ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
🥜Almond/Peanut Butter ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
🍯Local Honey (Don’t buy the honey that comes in bear-shaped bottles) ⠀⠀⠀
🍓Frozen Mixed Berries⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
Mix all of this up (excluding the almond/peanut butter + honey) and pour into a waffle iron. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Side note/PSA: I’m looking for a woman who will eat these with me every day and laugh at my jokes. Link in bio to apply.
Finally a clean and jerk PR! I don’t care how sketch it looked. I used my new jerk technique that I’ll probably forget next week 🤷🏽♂️ shout out to my bro @mark_w_shockley for the hype #cleanandjerk#pr
It seems like a such a drag to prioritize your health. To "spend" time on exercising for hours. To "waste" time at the grocery store and cooking meals.
I get it. It's not exactly convenient. It's not exactly as cheap as fast food and easy as not moving your body.
But I'm telling you, when you start to make those small changes, they add up. You're actually "investing" in your strength physically and mentally. You're investing in feeling better, preventing injuries, increasing energy, sleeping better, reducing all the stress you feel in your day to day life.
You start looking forward to that time to plan for the week with healthy options so you can save time in the morning sleeping longer, save money at lunch, eat the foods you crave in a healthier option that nourishes and energizes you.
You start looking forward to those workouts where you can blow off steam, maybe be a part of a community, and gather your thoughts while relieving stress.
Our bodies crave activity and nourishing foods. Our bodies want nothing more than to be healthy. Start treating your body as the temple it is and you'll notice your mind and life will reap the benefits. .
