The Soul Journal sounds like the word “sojourn,” which coincidentally means “a temporary stay.”
It suits this project really well, since each painting is done on location - a temporary stay to paint an exact moment before it passes. .
A minimalistic approach to capturing the essence of an experience. A primal connection of the eye, interpretation of one’s surroundings, into a brush tip filled with fluid water and a choice of pigment. A memory left as a very human collection of harmonious colors and shapes.
A look. A glance, a hurried passing.
A thoughtful moment in front of a massive monumental statue, dedicated to the passing of one’s furry companion.
The leisurely stroll of a bike moving through my [visual] frame of reference; rushed pen-lines, reflecting the pace of the rider as he rides out of frame.
All these transcribed while moving forward through life’s collection of temporary stays.
