So over the last year and a half I’ve been on a calorie deficit diet and I calorie count, which basically means I journal everything I eat and drink so I am 100% aware of what I’m consuming. In the past 18months I have lost exactly 100lbs in weight. I’m now at my target weight and don’t want to loose anymore, however I’ve been on this rodeo before and gained the weight back, so this time I still journal my food and drink and weigh myself regularly.
I choose to focus on a high protein, moderate fat, low sugar, low carbohydrate diet, mainly because I am diabetic. This works for me.
On my journey I have been struggling to find low calorie but high protein food. So when I find something that works, I like to share.
Arla quark yogurts- 140calories per pot with 20grams of protein. I frikken love these! But I like thick and creamy yogurts. These are mega thick so if that’s not your preference, I would avoid. However they make a thinner/more watery version which is also show in the photo (which I have yet to try).... I have tried the raspberry, blueberry and strawberry flavours.. not a fan of the strawberry as it has a lot of lemon in it which I find a weird flavour combination but I really like the blueberry and raspberry.
Second recommendation is eatlean grated protein cheese. It’s low calorie, high protein cheese that actually melts. A 100grams contains 173 calories and 36grams of protein... this stuff actually melts!!!! I use it with my omelette every day. Downside to this is it’s a very mild flavour. I personally prefer strong cheddar cheese so if I want more flavour I mix it with Waitrose light mature cheddar cheese which is higher in calories and much less protein but it still remains fairly healthy if you mix the two together.
Lastly is chocologic giant buttons. Charlotte recommended these and they have enriched my life! This chocolate is calorific BUT the sugar is lower then standard chocolate. The dark chocolate buttons are amazing if you have them with walnuts!! Yum! It’s the perfect treat 😋
