This here is maurice_rutherford aged 96 and counting. He's a good pal of mine, and I'm curating an exhibition of his in Margate at the wonderful cliffsmargate .
The exhibition is called "I See, Haiku", and is made up entirely of Maurice's photographs from around Margate. Maurice will be attending the launch which is Saturday 12th Jan, 12 noon. Please swing by and support this exhibition and Maurice. .
Maurice is an accomplished poet with several books under his belt. As he has wondered around Margate and Westgate-on-sea, he has taken wonderful candid landscapes and observations. On his Instagram, he accompanied these with Haiku's written for each image.
I was first taken by the simple beauty of each image, but when coupled with the traditional Japanese poem, they became something rather special and inspired me to suggest to Maurice that he should have an exhibition. .
Cliffs seems the obvious place as on my travels shooting bands I met the wonderful edforever who became a great friend and inbetween designing awesome lighting rigs for various bands including the new mumfordandsons one, he runs Cliffs in Margate, which is a coffee and record shop cafe.
This portrait was shot in cliffsmargate .
As always, big love to bayeux_ltd who are supporting this exhibition. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without you guys. .
I was asked what I love about myself today, and I realized I hadn’t really thought about that in a long, long time, and others felt the same. I love that I love to learn, and my curiosity keeps me photographing. What do you love about yourself? Here’s to better self love in a month of “everything better” resolutions, so we can extend more love to others 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Still one of my favourites from the road. Shot for @lonelyplanetmag exploring along the NC500 last year👌🏻
