A lovely little walk up at the headland, Heugh Battery, and memorial. So many wonderful historical buildings. #Hartlepool#Headland
17th-century manor house built from the rocks of an old friary. A workhouse between 1859-1865. Then became St Hilda's Hospital and a hospital was built around it, encasing it. The building became the ENT ward. Said to be haunted by a grey lady, a nurse or nun who killed herself after not being able to save a patient. She's said to visit men before they die, to help them on their way. The hospital was closed in 1984 and demolished in 1987, just the original building still stands. Now a listed building, but sadly left to fester. So much history for one little building! Would make a great setting for a story though! Looks so strange stood in the middle of a housing estate, all on its own.
