Is this the scene of a crime? A jewellery heist gone terribly wrong? These are red garnet gemstones which I found on Sunday on the Thames foreshore. The semi-precious gemstones are not native to the Thames. So how did they get there? Were they accidentally lost or purposely dropped in the Thames? What do you think?
The ancient Chinese considered jade the most precious and beautiful natural material. A wide variety of objects were carved from jade and here we have two very interesting plaques from 19th century China. One plaque appears to depict some kind of pre-historic bird, while the other shows an intricately carved little boy and frog. In Chinese traditional culture, the frog represents the lunar yin, and the frog spirit Ch'ing-Wa Sheng is associated with healing and good fortune. Both plaques are available for sale. #TheVintageJeweller
