The squirrel woods are kicking my ass. I have been out three times and have zero squirrels to show for it. I’m hunting with an old .22 rifle with open sights and have missed a few times. I am determined to figure this out, though. How is it, I can stalk a muley buck across an open prairie and successfully close in almost 200 yards on him for the shot, but I can’t find a squirrel in the middle of the woods, or if I do find one, I can’t get a shot off before it hightails it into a hole in the tree? Is it really that tricky? Who has some squirrel hunting pointers for me, because right now, I suck at this. 🤦🏻♀️ @janis_putelis you’re the president of the Rocky Mountain Squirrel Hunting Foundation, you have any pointers for a newbie in the Midwest (other than “don’t miss”)?
I talk a lot about the importance of only spending time doing what’s truly moving your business forward (in whatever direction is important to you). In other words, I don’t believe in wasting time on shoulds, shiny opportunities, or anything that isn’t vetted as a truly productive activity for your business. ⠀
I’ve recently been dabbling in social media and (slowly :) gearing up to be in here regularly. Why haven’t I been here consistently already? Because it isn’t where my clients have come from. For me, it would have been using my time on something unproductive instead of using it productively to grow my business and my impact. ⠀
Im currently working on pivoting my business in several ways that I can’t wait to talk about with you! ⠀
In the meantime, I’m contemplating the challenge many of us have with resisting the urge to do what everyone else is doing. Is there anything you can’t resist doing while you work, even though you know it’s not what your business needs right now?
I am always really hard on myself. I’m always trying to be a better person, to be PERFECT. But whenever I chase perfection, I am unhappy, because it’s not an achievable goal. I end up comparing myself to others who I perceive as perfect, people who have their own flaws I cannot see. We are not perfect, we are not meant to be. The only thing we can do is eagerly, zealously, and with loving and gracious hearts... try our best to be better. And to be gentle and compassionate with ourselves & others in the process. I like to paint, but I don’t often share with people because I know there are more talented painters out there! But this is a practice in not comparing, in expressing myself and not allowing my creativity to feel diminished by others’ light. This is an exercise in breaking my fear of others seeing my imperfections, a tiny step towards embracing my flaws with open arms and my own unconditional love. #painting#watercolor#watercolorpainting#watercolorart#paint#paintings#iamnotperfect#alwayslearning#alwaysgrowing#blooming#selflove
The holidays always make me miss her more then anything. It’s been 2 years and the pain of losing her is still fresh. This will be our 3rd Christmas without her and it’s so hard. Today we go the notice in the mail that her house has sold. (Her “executor” of her will let it go into foreclosure) It brought back all the memories of the fighting and drama after her cancer diagnosis. I’m just so grateful that she was able to live with us and be peaceful for her final days. I miss you so much grandma, you were my world and my heart misses you so much. I am so grateful to have gained not only a grandma when I met Steve, but to now have the most beautiful angel. #imissyou#thehoildayssuckwithoutyou#bestgrandmaever#grandma#notbybloodbutbylove#shelovedme#herfavoritegrandaughter#onlybecausechiefsaboy#hesherfavoritegrandson
#BeReady sounds maybe a challenge to far sometimes, how can you be ready for anything?
It’s fair to say you can’t always, but you can be #OpenMinded to what is happening in front of your eyes.
You can step back from the drunk person fumbling at the bar, not knowing what they’re about to do due to fear, but actually it’s preparation to protect or help, it’s being prepared.
We’re all born with the skills to do this the same way we’re born to lift with perfection as a child having never been taught the perfect squat you naturally keep a straight back and bend your knees.
We are responsible for inflicting the change on our own abilities and by choosing to #BePrepared you give yourself the opportunity to #BeReady#LifeSkills#AlwaysLearning#PositivePower#MindSpace#HeadSpace#BeAllYouCanBe
Aglianico two ways: the traditional, full bodied, muscular red with notes of spicy dark fruits and leather. And the more rare dry white version with delicate notes of yellow flowers and white peaches. Come in to taste and compare these two beauties with me!
