This is what getting gas looks like in Bolivia. You pull up to the pump, and bend over. But don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt every time. 😜
Actually though this is how it goes. You pull up, and hopefully they are in the mood to sell gas to a foreigner. If so, they will pull out a calculator and decide how much they want to stick it to you. Then you start negotiating, hopefully landing somewhere only slightly higher than the local rate. But don’t be surprised if it’s three times higher than what the locals pay.
We heard that there has been a law passed abolishing the foreigner gas price. But, word travels slow in Bolivia, and there’s no enforcement to make the change.
We are loving the natural beauty of Bolivia so far, and are excited to see the rest of the country. I have faith that one day they will sort out this bass ackwards fuel dilemma. -Brendon
