The Main Building of the Peace Memorial Museum reopens today after two years over renovation and fortifications. While crowds are expected with the upcoming Hiroshima Flower Festival and Golden Week, the newly curated and redesigned exhibit, which features photographs, artwork, artifacts and more, weaves a poignant and moving narrative about what happened on August 6, 1945. Whether it’s your first visit or just your first visit back in awhile, the exhibit will leave you with something to think about long after you leave 🕊

🇯🇵💯 - Bunking down for the night, this was probably the darkest spot I’ve been in for a long time. Eyes open, eyes shut…didn’t matter: pitch black. Loved it!
Name: Kirifuri-no-taki -
Location: Nikko, Tochigi
Waterway: Kirifuri River
Height: 85m (upper 45m, lower 40m)
Parking: 200 cars
Facilities: Restaurants, gift shop, toilets
Admission Fee: none
36°46'43.9"N 139°37’29.5"E (for the viewing platform)
Somedays you get lucky.
Woke up to a thick blanket of cloud and walking up the cobblestone path to the viewing platform in a light drizzle, I wondered to myself if I was going to be able to see anything at all.
The platform sits opposite the waterfall and across the river valley. Wishfully setting up my tripod on the lower deck I waited for a break in clouds. And I swear, no more than 10 minutes later, just as I was about to pack up, the clouds parted, briefly revealing Kirifuri! I managed to snap a few before the clouds obscured my view again. Heading back to my car, I figured there must be a way down to the river bed but today was not the day for that adventure. I had quite a few more waterfalls lined up and I would have to either be happy with what I got or put it on the list of falls to reshoot. Sometimes, it’s ok to just be happy with what you got!
Designated as one of Japan’s Top 100, this is a full service tourist destination: large car parks, restaurants, gift shops and public toilets. The path is mostly cobblestone and can be easily done in high heels (if you dare.) I was there about a week too early for the autumn leaves. Best time would be around the third week of October.
More about one of the restaurants in the next post.

We are at a beautiful fancy ryokan tonight, nestled into the hills and bordering a river. We got here a bit early, so took a walk before we checked in, and wow, the area is beautiful!! The ryokan has two indoor baths, two outdoor baths and a private onsen in each room. #onsen#japan#traveljapan#ryokan#travel#travelphotography

First visit to #sashakanetanaka in Aoyama district. Tastes amazing, delicate, and sophisticated. 👌🏻
They have seats just in front of authentic garden. It’s very peaceful moment and highly recommended! #keimytokyo#travelplanner
Everyone has been talking about the new study that young people are having less sex. Many people are blaming social media for it as one possible cause. Well in our case, we have been closer than ever since we got to Japan, but that’s because the space is so small here 😆
The explosion of the Kamiyama crater made by the last explosion of the Hakone volcano about 3000 years ago. It is also a typical tourist spot in Hakone.
It is said that eating "one black egg", which is boiled in the acid heat mud unique to Owakudani, will extend its life for seven years, and it is also very popular as a souvenir or snack.
