When people ask me where I'm from I'd always tell them I'm from Camiguin although technically, I'm not. I only lived here for 2 years. I was born and raised in the Queen City of the South, Cebu. The reason why I consider Camiguin as my hometown is because it was here that I learned the values of humility, patience and determination. You see, Camiguin is a very small island. You can circumnavigate it in 3 hours. It only has a one National Road. It has an occasional rotational brown out. The nearest cinema is an island away where you have to travel an average of 4 hours just to see the latest movie. In here, people take delight in simple things: the good weather, a bountiful catch, and fiestas. In here I learned to appreciate the things we so conveniently have in the city. I saw how important education is and how hard you have to work towards achieving your goals. Here, people dream big. They believe in possibilities that far across the coast is a better, brighter future.
And also, this place has volcanoes, hot, cold and soda springs, amazing white sandbars, a clam farm, a sunken cemetery and many more that titillates your wanderlust. So yeah, I'm from Camiguin. How about you? What's the story of your hometown?
