Niki was born on the 22nd of February in 1949 in Vienna, Austria. Niki started racing in mini coopers at a young age. His family where bankers and really disliked the idea of racing. He moved up to Formula Vee before he joined sports cars with a private Porsche. Niki loaned 30000 from the bank and bought himself into F2 with March. Niki impressed March with his driving skills so he was allowed to drive the Austrian F1 grand prix in 1971. Lauda retired on his debut but got a full time drive for 1972. The car was terrible and Lauda didn't score any points. Regazzoni joined Ferrari in 1974 and told Enzo how impressive Niki was after being teammates at BRM in 1973. Enzo believed him and signed Niki for 1974. Niki scored his first win in Spain and led the Championship until a string of 5 retirements in a row ended his chances of winning the title. Lauda his 75 season started slow until Ferrari brought the new 312T in South Africa. Lauda won 4 out of 5 races and won his first title with a 3rd place in Monza. Lauda dominated the early 1976 season with 4 out of 6 races. But it all went wrong on the Nurburgring. Lauda crashed on the first lap which saw his car burst into flames. Merzario Edwards and Ertl freed Lauda from the burning car which saved his life. Niki had severe burns to his head and a lot of lung damage. Lauda only missed 2 races and returned in Monza with bloody bandages and vision problems. Niki dropped back in the first laps of the race but recovered and finished 4th. Lauda led hunt by 3 points coming into Japan but Lauda chose to retire after lap 1 because of the treacherous conditions. Hunt won the title by a single point. Lauda scored a lot of podiums in 1977 and won the title with a few races to go and left Ferrari. Lauda joined Brabham and only took 1 win with the fan car in 1978. Lauda retired after 1979 to focus on Lauda air. Lauda returned in 1982 with McLaren. Mclaren did have a competitive car in 1984, Niki won 5 races and won the title with 0.5 point in the last race after a great recovery drive to 2nd. Lauda retired from F1 in 1985 and focussed on management roles with Ferrari, Jaguar and Mercedes.
Ferrai's FXX program is mad. "Give us $2.6 million US. In return, you get access to our latest tech and and the ability to help shape our future road cars. You also get a really special Enzo. Not to keep, mind you. Or to drive at a track day of your choosing, or get into before a team of our mechanics have looked it over." Only Ferrari.
The Enzo in question is known as the FXX and it's been upgraded in some major ways. The V12 is increased from 6.0 to 6.3 litres. Power's up from 651 to a biiiiig 789 prancing horses (couldn't resist). It's also got upgraded brake pads (discs are the same), slicks, and a lot of telemetry equipment.
38 FXXs were built but number 30 was the most special. It was kept back by Ferrari and given to Michael Schumacher as a retirement present when he bowed out of F1 in 2006. Shits on a gold watch tbh. 🤷♂️ #whippstagram#mywhipp#maniacmuscle
