Arcade Fire have come a long way since their debut. They’ve gotten better as musicians, as performers, more confident and better looking. Win Butler & Regine Chasange are some of the best leads in music right now. Getting to this concert was a bit rough. I’m not too crazy about the venue and still not sold on it. It’s just not properly set up for shows but thankfully sound was good as that’s definitely important for a band like Arcade Fire. Also it was rough being stuck in 2 hours of traffic just to get here but I made it. This was my fourth time seeing these guys and the first time seeing them in a smaller venue aka non stadium. (I’ve seen them in MSG twice and Barclays Center) What’s cool about this one is, not only was it a smaller venue, it was a repeat performance on a tour. Usually the band stops by once during an album cycle so this was a unique show. A stripped down version of their Everything Now set up from last year and this was a dirt cheap show ($20!) but the band really brought it. I didn’t think they’d be on par with their stadium shows and even though I prefer the last 2 tours it was still an amazing time and it made me realize, the band is really meant for stadiums. The crowd was a bummer, it seemed mostly like kids looking to go out for the summer than actual fans but like I said, 4 times in a row & these guys still blow me away. They’re no longer that small indie band from Canada, there was a reason David Bowie was enamored by their debut, he saw something not many did.

I for one loved this album and I feel the hate for this album is unwarranted. Yes the band did not break any new grounds with this record and the marketing campaign was a bit too much. But Arcade Fire making music that sounds like them isn’t a bad thing. I will admit there is some disappointment that this is what they came up with after 4 years. Its a really short album. It has 2 variations of the same song (Infinite Content) which serve as story interludes rather than stand alone songs. An Everything Now reprise which isn’t too bad of an idea and that leaves you with 9 songs. Thats still a decent amount but Chemistry & Good God Damn are some of the worst songs the band’s written, and thats not a slight against the band. As Win said himself not every song will be loved by fans which is true. That leaves about 7 solid songs but 4 of them were singles which is another trend I hate. Singles should be 2 at max. Getting past that all the leftover songs are a lot of fun and really well written. The electronic sounds the band decided to incorporate work well and make them feel unique but Win & Regine’s writing is still strong after 5 albums. And the songs sound amazing live. The packaging is really cool too. My only big qualm is I would rather have had Regine be lead vocals on more songs but maybe next time. Overall I think the album is great, imperfect sure but not enough to turn my back on the band. The band has put out 4 amazing records already and having the fifth one be just good is okay with me. That’s better than a lot of other bands. I am glad I picked this up as I constantly listen to it but I hope as time goes on, more people warm up to it.
last night in detroit was an absolute jaw-dropping performance of a dream becoming true. from the production, to the set list, and crowd interaction, everything was so unique and amazing! i’m so happy to have gotten the pleasure of viewing this live! thank you so much Win, Regine, Will, Jeremy, Tim and Richard, along with the whole Arcade Fire crew. you guys really know how to put on a show! i love you guys with all my heart @arcadefire@djwindow98@rrparry@butlerwills@sampatchmusic@metajeremy ❤️❤️❤️
