Have gotten into the habit of sharing excerpts from the books that stand out to me. The excerpt here is from Daniel Woodrell’s Winter’s Bone which is a portrayal of an impoverished and crime-ridden community struggling to survive in the Ozark hills of Missouri near the Arkansas line. The novel is riveting, chilling, and heartbreakingly beautiful: “Ree needed often to inject herself with pleasant sounds, stab those sounds past the constant screeching, squalling hubbub regular life raised inside her spirit, poke the soothing sounds past that racket and down deep where her jittering soul paced on a stone slab in a gray room, agitated and endlessly provoked but yearning to hear something that might bring a moment’s rest.” #winter#fiction#ozarks#missouri#humanspirit
"I've seen the water get up halfway or so, but never over it like this," said Monday, while getting a close look at the ruined bridge, its an inch-and-a-half thick steel beams bent and twisted like ribbons. "I guess they (trees) just built up so much against it that the water pressure and everything it couldn't take any more and away it went."
In 2017 I was visiting #missouri they had a huge flood just before I arrived. I had never seen that many trees.. a field full of trees laying down as if someone had come and drove over everything with a steamroller.
Hoping to go back this year and see how much has changed.

This shit takes time
It takes will power and sacrifice
It takes picking a good nights sleep over a night out
It takes excruciating workouts and days of falling on the toilet kinda sore
It takes making tough decisions when it comes to those around you
But it is worth it. Not just the outcome but the process to get there. You learn a lot about yourself. This sport has taught me about how to stay focused. And what I need to do to not get distracted.
I have bad days. I eat too many red velvet Oreos. I dont get my water in for that day. I let life stress take over. I get lazy. Ive chosen pancakes over deadlifts BUT I’ve recovered, learned, and moved forward. Gotten tougher. You don’t inherit toughness. You earn that shit. There’s no “iron mind” gene. Toughness is built.
Missing old @houseofpaingym. May need to stop in for a workout! 2 week out prep pics, looking like a raw chicken thigh.
