Finally - Constant of Proportionality Bookmark Notes! I’ve been working on creating these off and on for probably a year. Nothing ever felt ‘just right’ until I attempted them in the bookmark format. Success! These discuss what COP are, how to find the COP in a graph, table, equation and scenario and examples for each too. A completed notes and example page, a partially completed notes and example page and blank versions are all included. Customize to you and your students needs!
If you want to use these as class reference cards - print them off, laminate the completed versions and have class sets readily available for students! The bookmark pages can be layered and stapled along the side or hole punched in the corner and connected by yarn tied or mini binder rings. Use a bright colored card stock and these will be easy for students to find in their folders, desks OR lockers 😉
What should be next for my bookmark notes?!

Ok, let the bets begin. How many of my 120 6th graders will make an inappropriate comment during our Order of “Operations” activity tomorrow using these bodies? Comment 👇 with your number. The winner will get a little something from me! 😂
I saw this idea go through my timeline over the weekend from @teacherinthejungle and decided to try it. It was a total win!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I put them in groups of 3-4, and gave them a set of 6-7 problems. They had 5 minutes to complete all the problems (as a group), and at the end of the 5-minutes, I randomly called for answers. The groups that had the correct answer for the question I called, got to put their color post-it on the game board. The groups that got it wrong (or didn’t answer the problem) were not able to put their post-it up.
Then I handed out a second and third set of problems and repeated the process each time.
The kids LOVED it. We will definitely be playing this one again 💗💗💗

Before she retired, my Mom was the BEST teacher! She has shared so many great ideas with me over the years and this is one of my favorites! I change our Wollygoggle once a week (always with a silly name!) and the students have to write an expression for the rule. They put their answers in a box and I pick a winner from each class at the end of the week. I better increase the difficulty because they were running up to answer this today!!!! #smarties#likemotherlikedaughter#prealgebra#mathteacher#wollygoggle#middleschoolmath#middleschool
Mom worries that when I moved to teaching that I would be overwhelmed at wanting to help all my kids. And some days I am.
But most days I try to just make a difference to one. I know I can’t get overwhelmed with that and it continues me working towards my goal of making a difference!
Every day we go into classrooms, hoping not only to teach our content well but also be a support for those that don’t have it at home or don’t believe in themselves. To help them know they matter, they can be whatever they want to be, and we love them.

This is not a pretty post. Up until now I've only shared the good. But let's get real. This job is hard and some days it seems like it's impossible. These are my results from a quiz on Friday - 3 classes. More students failed than passed. It's a harsh reminder of the uphill battle I'm fighting... I was given the "low" students along with a compacted 7th and 8th grade curriculum when most of my students are 1 to 3 years below grade level according to their MAP-M score. When I read Mathematical Mindsets by @jo.boaler this summer I was so optimistic. But my county has a specific curriculum and my school went mostly all in to the faster paced class. Throw in a strict grading policy and I feel defeated. My students will feel it too when they see these results tomorrow. But luckily we can do a retake. ***So, I'm writing this now with the hope that I can stay positive and that my students can learn from their mistakes more than ever before.*** This is their first grade of the second quarter and I so badly want them to start off on the right foot. Please send positive vibes! #teacherconfession#teacherproblems
FYI - it's a unit where calculators are not allowed (unless there is an IEP accommodation) and they are working on multiplying and dividing integers, order of operations, long division with a smaller numerator, and the distributive property.
I woke up like this and being comfortable in my own skin again and being successful and keeping that progress going has been the best thing to happen to me in 2018! Pushing myself to show up even when I didn’t want to has paid off and will continue to! I’m not done yet, watch me work 😘😊 , I’ve been apart of Team Natural lately.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays during Advisory, we are reading “Hidden Figures.” I loved the movie and I wanted to read something to my students that actually related to my content area. I want my students to realize that people who are good at math are not just old white men. Some of the most brilliant and significant mathematicians of our lifetime are women of color. The last picture is a poster I have in my classroom of Women Mathematicians throughout history. 👌👌👌 #girlscandomath#hiddenfigures#womeninmath#iteachmath#algebrateacher#middleschoolmath#mathteacher

Need a motivator? Need to get rid of leftover Halloween candy? That's what I needed for today's review day. So I pulled a popsicle stick at the beginning of class and if that person stayed on target for the whole class, then he or she would get a full size candy bar! It worked for most of my classes, but my third period... 🤦♀️ If the person didn't stay on task, then I didn't announce who it was #classroommanagement#teachertips#teachertip#lightbox
