Lilly price break reverses NICE’s 'No' ruling on breast cancer drug Verzenio
Last October, England’s drug-cost watchdogs dealt Eli Lilly a blow when they decreed that the company’s CDK 4/6 inhibitor to treat breast cancer, Verzenio, wasn't cost-effective. So Lilly dished up a new price break—and now the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is on board.
The problem, initially, was that Lilly couldn’t provide evidence that Verzenio (called Verzenios in Europe) is more effective than its two rivals, Pfizer’s Ibrance and Novartis’ Kisqali, for treating hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer.
All three are offered at a list price of £2,950 in the U.K., with each company offering the National Health Service (NHS) a confidential discount. Lilly’s discount wasn’t enough to make Verzenio cost-effective, NICE said at the time.
With a new price break from Lilly, Verzenio is now as good a deal as Ibrance and Kisqali are, NICE ruled. The three drugs “have different side effects, but they all appear to work as well as each other,” NICE said in its guidanance.
One of the challenges the agency faced when reviewing the data on Verzenio was that there’s no data comparing it to its rivals, and survival data is sparse.
Lilly is counting on Verzenio to help the company reach its lofty revenue forecast for this year. In December, the company thrilled investors when it released a 2019 revenue estimate of $25.3 billion and $25.8 billion—beating the average estimate of under $25 billion. Lilly also said its sales would grow 6% on average between 2015 and 2020, an improvement over its previous forecast of 5%.

“Clinical research shows that dairy products have little or no benefit for bones. A 2005 review published in Pediatrics showed that milk consumption does not improve bone integrity in children. In a more recent study, researchers tracked the diets, physical activity, and stress fracture incidences of adolescent girls for seven years, and concluded that dairy products and calcium do not prevent stress fractures in adolescent girls. Similarly, the Harvard Nurses’ Health Study, which followed more than 72,000 women for 18 years, showed no protective effect of increased milk consumption on fracture risk.
Consumption of dairy products has also been linked to higher risk for various cancers, especially to cancers of the reproductive system. Most significantly, dairy product consumption has been linked to increased risk for prostate18-20 and breast cancers is most likely related to increases in insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1), which is found in cow’s milk. Consumption of milk and dairy products on a regular basis has been shown to increase circulating levels of IGF-1.23,24 Perhaps the most convincing association between IGF-1 levels and cancer risk is seen in studies of prostate cancer. Case-control studies in diverse populations have shown a strong and consistent association between serum IGF-1 concentrations and prostate cancer risk. One study showed that men with the highest levels of IGF-1 had more than four times the risk of prostate cancer, compared with those who had the lowest levels. In the Physicians Health Study, tracking 21,660 participants for 28 years, researchers found an increased risk of prostate cancer for those who consumed ≥2.5 servings of dairy products per day as compared with those who consumed ≤0.5 servings a day. Prostate cancer risk was elevated with increased consumption of low-fat milk, suggesting that too much dairy calcium, and not just the fat associated with dairy products, could be a potential threat to prostate health.”

"As an MD there is only so much traditional medicine can do, especially with respect to preventive medicine, health and wellness; and I have found through my research and personal as well as lots of shared experience that Plexus actually works and contributes to your optimal health and wellness. So many other things out there are just passing fads and gimmicks but this is the real deal.
Believe me, after being a skeptic for a long time, and as a doctor, these were the last things on my radar, but I sure am glad I took the leap and got started on the products and have found how much better and more energetic I could feel though I had already considered myself very healthy. Who knew? Now I do and am so grateful my family and I and now many other friends are also experiencing these tremendous health benefits... It's a no brainer. Best investment ever. You can't put a price on your health." -T.H. #doctor#health#guthealth#medical#newme#newlife#works#supplements#cleanliving

Had to share this awesome post-op surgery x-ray! All fixed up now! It’s incredible how they use a coil spring to reattach ligaments back to the bone! Definitely one of the most painful surgeries I’ve ever had but the process & hard work that goes into fixing a broken clavicle and ruptured ligament is just too cool NOT to share! So glad I had a wonderful surgeon to put me back together again!
However, it’s going to be a huge learning process trying to be able to care for my two babies. I’m so very grateful & thankful to have family and friends around me for all the extra help and support! Love you all and thank you from the bottom of my heart! 💗
And a very special thank you to my husband Brett for caring for me and making sure I’m always alright! And doing double dad duty to help make sure our kids are still happy and having fun!
Have you seen Raynaud's phenomenon before? Here is Life with Raynaud’s
Raynaud's disease or Raynaud's phenomenon is excessively reduced blood flow in response to cold or emotional stress, causing discoloration of the fingers, toes, and occasionally other areas.
When the disorder's cause is idiopathic, it is referred to as Raynaud's disease (also called primary Raynaud's); if the syndrome is secondary to another disease such as systemic sclerosis, Scleroderma, or other connective tissue disorders, it is correctly referred to as Raynaud's phenomenon (secondary Raynaud's).
Episodes are often triggered by cold or emotional stress. The two main types are primary Raynaud's, when the cause is unknown, and secondary Raynaud's, which occurs as a result of another condition. Secondary Raynaud's can occur due to a connective-tissue disorder, such as scleroderma or lupus, injuries to the hands, prolonged vibration, smoking, thyroid problems, and certain medications, such as birth control pills. Diagnosis is typically based on the symptoms.
The primary treatment is avoiding the cold. Other measures include the discontinuation of nicotine or stimulants use. Medications for treatment of cases that do not improve include calcium channel blockers and iloprost. Little evidence supports alternative medicine. Severe disease may rarely be complicated by skin sores or gangrene.
