🌿 The population of #seniors in #Canada is greater in size than it has ever been before; and with a growing list of medical & health needs, our #healthcaresystem is simply overwhelmed. Our hospital beds are taken by #elderly patients in crisis awaiting #longtermcare & many seniors are living in #poverty or without homes as a result of complex health circumstances.
🌿The natural process of #aging comes with its own difficulties - pain, joint inflammation, memory loss, dementia, new diseases or chronic illnesses, agitation, anxiety, depression, dealing with past traumas & the list goes on. #Cannabis can support our aging population through these #natural aging processes rather than prescribing more #pills for #symptommanagement. Cannabis products can also be an effective pain management & anxiolytic in #palliative & #endoflife situations.
🌿Many #pharmaceuticals are absolutely necessary, particularly for the health of our older population, but using one pharmaceutical to mask the side effects of others is just not going to work anymore. For example, a common side effect of #narcotic#pain medication is #constipation; and for a young person we can usually “push through”, but constipation in the elderly can lead to distressing, painful & often fatal #bowelobstructions requiring either #surgery or #palliation.
🌿In addition to providing our seniors with more efficient symptom management & pain control, cannabis can actually serve to slow neurodegeneration by acting as a #neuroprotectant. Certain #cannabinoid have been scientifically proven to protect our brain cells & neural pathways, preventing the build up of amyloid plaque that can lead to #dementia and other neurodegenerative illnesses 🧠.
🌿Unfortunately, #Canadian seniors have little to no knowledge about cannabis because it was prohibited for most of their lives. So, it is up to #cannabiseducators, #nurses & other #healthcare professionals to advocate for cannabis in the care of our aging population.

When a few (10) of your residents ask you to stop by the store for a couple of things...
*not pictured: the 49" tv
It took 2 trips to the Walmart today because I couldn't fit the tv and everything in my car at the same time.
It makes you appreciate being able to go to the store anytime you want/need your favorite snacks or shampoo.
Sometimes it's the big things, but a lot of times it's the small things that make quality of life. 😊
Day 1: DONE! .
Time to make dinner and get some work done, and maybe attempt to organize my life a littler better for the next 8 months. 🙄 .
Oh and, after all that anxiety over not knowing when my next day off will be....
It’s tomorrow. 🙌🏼 😂
Which is probably a good thing because my to-do list just got a lot longer.
