I’ve basically been tired since 2009. And over the last few years, I’ve kinda given up on taking care of myself other than the bare basics, which usually means a shower - and that’s it, in favour of mental self care •
I took this photo today (swipe) and was a bit shocked. I don’t think I ever really notice what I look like during my passing glances in the mirror. In my defence, it was sunny and I was squinting into the sun, but yikes!
So, my little list of very small things I can do to feel a little better groomed
Any other suggestions? That are not overwhelming or time consuming? Leave me a comment below 😁
Nurture with grace & grit — the words to guide my year!
I want to be very kind to myself and yet I don’t want to just let myself off the hook for not feeling like doing something. I have aspirations to create a body of (art) work this year and it’s easy for me to let my opportunities to create slip by — this is when a bit of grit comes in. Do you know what I mean?
And how are you nurturing yourself this year?
P.S. this little doodle uses the beautiful, shimmery watercolors gifted to me by my wonderful creative client @dreamatolleperry She has an amazing watercolor journaling online course coming up very soon!

🆘Мореманы, помогите нам решить, нужен ли электронный логбук? Или бумажного достаточно?
Логбук – это дневник, журнал, называйте, как хотите, куда записывается весь ваш морской опыт в часах, днях и милях😎⛵
Okay you've committed to a training and nutrition plan.
You've downloaded My Fitness Pal and religiously track every bite of food you consume...well done!
Now, how about your training? Are you tracking that?
The amount of people I see in the gym not logging their exercises and weights used is huge! How do you expect ever to progress if you don't track every workout? Every...single...time!
Ok you benched 62.5kg for 3 sets of 8 reps today, great. Next week rolls around...now did you use 60kg? 62.5kg? How many reps/sets did you do? Can you remember if you didn't log it down? Maybe...maybe not!
The aim for progress in the gym comes down to progressive overload. You want to look back on your training log at the end of the year and see that progress written down either in an old fashioned book or on your phone/tablet.
For example... you can see...January 16th 2019 Bench Press 60kg x 3 sets of 8 reps. December 16th 2019 Bench Press 100kg x 3 sets of 8 reps!
Written confirmation you have progressed!
I have tracked every session, every exercise I have done since I was 14, i'm 41 in March! Tracking progress, how you feel and how the session went is a massively important aspect of your fitness plan and everyone training should keep these records.
Track your progress and stick to your plans!

1️⃣Annotare i progressi: col passare del tempo, guardate sempre da dove siete partiti, ciò vi farà capire che state migliorando e vi terrà sulla retta via..potete anche premiarvi quando raggiungete un piccolo traguardo!;

Adventure Log by @wordnotebooks
Over the years my coach has always kept a meticulous log book for each season. I’ve tried to keep my own log books and I guess I’ve never really appreciated how important they are until now. Here’s a wee sneak peak at what I did at the age of 13. The main focus for the day was technique and pushing that technique over distance (technique under fatigue). I wasn’t the fastest 13 year old but I was building the engine and skill that would allow me to progress as I got older #workoutwednesday#logbook#swimming#wherediditstartforyou#dontforgetyourroots
I visited the forest ranger Ernst. He has a lovely little house 🤗

Saw this on @fischrjournals account
I’ve always had a serious problem with pinning just 1 mood on a day. I might be a bit unhinged, but I run the emotional gauntlet on a daily basis. 2 sounds more accurate •
As part of 2019 being my year of building intentional habits (repetition is reality!) and changing my way of interacting with the universe, this will come in handy. I think
These pens will stay with my commonplace book to make it easy for me to fill in this page and my tracker, both of which will live right at the front. Make it easy to do and you’re halfway there (yes I read and listen to a LOT of Gretchen Rubin)

Do any of my fellow seafarers out there sometimes feel like a secretary/administrative worker instead of a seafarer? .
With this seemingly never ending stream of new conventions, procedures, rules etc., there always seems to follow a load of administrative work for us seafarers to complete. Often in the form of logs, checklists, computer programs etc. .
Life at sea can at times be very busy with short voyages, many port stays, plenty of inspection and very little time to rest! On top of that you can often add a ton of paperwork that needs to be filled out as well.
In my experience the amount of paperwork often ends up being more of an burden, as it is not only time consuming, but it also takes away prescious time that could have been used on more urgent and meaningful tasks/jobs on board the vessel.
I personally spent several hours every week on paperwork. Sometimes I spent more time filling out paperwork than the time it will take me to execute the actual job.
It is a fact that the amount of administrative work on board vessels is a very big and time consuming task.
It is definitely a big part of my every day job and I often don't have the option to postpone it till tomorrow as there will most likely be a bunch of new stuff by then.
Of course there is some reason behind the madness, but I have to admit, for a common seafarer it is often very hard to see it and it somehow feels as if it contributes very little value to the actual work of a seafarer - although when I come to think of it - it might actually be one of the biggest parts of my job.
Even The International Maritime Organization (IMO) have addressed this issue, former Secretary-General K. Sekimizu said: ‘There has long been a feeling in the industry that there is too much wasted paperwork [...] I would urge as many people as possible to take part in this consultation, as only with a strong set of data can we meaningfully identify where changes may be necessary.’ .
Do any of my fellow seafarers ever have similar experiences/feelings about this subject? And where you guys aware of the amount of administrative work the job as a seafarer entails?

Saw this on @kelseywells page and was rather astonished 😮
PS: a few people have passionately pointed out since I posted that this is not true
PPS: I could care less what the facts are, this definition makes me happy!
