12x30” deep canvas
My latest abstract is brightening up my living room.
I have 'Summer #1' in my bedroom and I love looking at it and remembering all the summer vibes I had swimming around my head when I painted it. 'Summer #2 was inspired by the lovely late summer we had with touches of Autumn thrown in.
The fun sides are just my way of making it a little bit special.

I believe I was born an artist. I think everyone is born with so much creativity – it’s a matter of how we use it and if we can keep it as we grow. Growing up, I fostered my creativity by taking art classes and drawing almost every day. However, I was always told I couldn’t be an artist professionally, so I studied industrial design (product design). I loved that I could still create things, but I didn’t feel fulfilled. After several years of working as a designer and painting as a hobby, I took the leap and quit my salaried job.
For the first year, although I loved painting, I felt so lost and confused with what I was doing with my life. I constantly felt like I made a mistake and that I wouldn’t be able to succeed. It wasn’t until I changed my mindset that I realized none of that mattered and I refocused my energy into excitement to create without the pressure of worrying about money, success, and what others thought. I simply created to create and that beauty reflected in my work and soon I became successful without forcing it.
Athough life as an artist is so amazing, there are many sacrifices such as financial stability, working on weekends and holidays, creating balance between work and home life, and dealing with criticism. What motivates me to continue creating is how much happiness my art brings people. Expressing the beauty of Hawaii visually and sharing that love and aloha with the world through my art is so rewarding.
And I'm sooo stoked that I'll be back in Japan with @maunaloa_hawaii in one week with so many amazing new works (including this one)! If you are in Japan I would love to see you! 💙
