The Arena di Verona is a Roman amphitheater, one of the best preserved of its kind and of the only ones still in use today. Built in 30 AD and having suffered the occasional damage, amongst others due to an earthquake in 1117, the Arena has continued to astound the people of Verona and its visitors and today hosts half a million enthusiasts for productions inside its ancient walls, particularly for the world famous operas.
Pula Arena, Hırvatistan Pula’daki Roma amfi tiyatrosu. İlk olarak MÖ 27’de Augustus döneminde ahşaptan yapılan amfi tiyatro, daha sonra MS 68 tarihinde Vespasian döneminde yeniden inşa edilmiştir. Günümüze ulaşan dünyadaki altıncı en büyük Roma arenası.
Zemin planı eliptik, en uzun eksen yaklaşık 130 m iken en kısa olan yaklaşık 100 m. Arena adı verilen merkezi düz alanda gladyatör mücadeleleri gerçekleşen amfi tiyatronun yaklaşık 20.000 izleyici kapasitesi olduğu düşünülüyor. Yapımında ise yerel kireçtaşı kullanılmış.
Pula Arena, the Roman amphitheater in Pula, Croatia. First constructed in wood during the reign of Augustus, 27 B.C. Reconstructed by an enlarged stone building completed during the reign of Vespasian (68 CE). The sixth-largest surviving Roman arenas in the world.
The ground plan is elliptical, the longer axis measuring about 130 m and the shorter one about 100 m. Gladiator fights took place in the central flat area called the arena, while the spectators could sit on the stone tiers or stand in the gallery. It is believed that the Amphitheater could seat about 20,000 spectators. Local limestone was used for its construction.
