Yesterday's NC Green keepers emptied and sorted 3 bins from the golf course, the 1st picture shows the unsorted waste and the other 3 show the waste after sorting.
This is a task the greenkeeping team have to daily and although it doesn't take long it would save time if waste was placed in the appropriate bins.
We aim to be a zero waste to landfill site by 2020 but we can only do this with the help of our members and visitors so please think before you bin it and help lighten the load for the greenkeeping team.

The long rough is being cut back today thanks to the generous assistance from one of our members. Some debris will be present until the clippings are collected so please treat long rough areas as GUR until this essential work is completed.

Greens renovation began today with a double verti cut of all greens, this removed the lateral growth and presented the grass for a cleaner cut.
Holes 2, 10, 11 & 12 have been cored and the cores removed using Double A's core collector, this machine allows 1 member of staff to clear a green faster than 5 using snow shovels.
The cored greens have been left on winter greens for the rest of the day as sands not been added to the surfaces yet, this will begin tomorrow, in the mean time the holes have been left open to allow the bad air out of the root one and fresh air in.

The team have been busy part of last week moving into this week fixing irrigation faults.
The first picture is of the 7th green where we have replaced sprinklers that rotate 360 degrees watering the semi rough and bunkers as well as the green. These sprinklers have been replaced with adjustable sprinklers taken from the 2nd approach, an area that has not been watered since it was seeded.
The second picture is of the 12th, the damaged turf was caused by a sprinkler being out of adjustment, this is now fixed so the areas drying up nicely and water use is reduced.
The 3rd picture is of a valve box on the 3rd fairway which had a hairline crack in it causing a constant leak, this wasted eater but also caused the pumps to run more than needed to maintain pressure.
These jobs are now complete allowing us to move onto other areas...just in time for the rain to return.

Today the team are making the most if the calm weather by spraying total weed killer on weeds in bunkers and bunker edging to slow the ingress of weeds and reduce the need for further spraying.
The areas that have been sprayed are highlighted by blue dye. By the time the first golf approaches these areas the chemical will be dry so poses no risk but please be on the safe side and wash hands after play along with any equipment that may have come into contact.

Since the beginning of April the golf course has been separating cardboard and shredding it so that it can be mixed with green waste to produce a better quality compost. By separating the cardboard we have reduced the amount being uplifted weekly by 70%, allowing us to make savings on the cost of waste uplifts.

The team are finishing up the afternoon shift by giving the fairways their third cut of the week and the semi rough its second, the growth has fairly taken off compared to this time last month.
