Time to meet our ONCE Musical Director extraordinaire, Victoria Falconer-Pritchard 🎶
Victoria is a cabaret performer, multi-instrumentalist, musical director and composer. She's performed on stages from Soho Theatre to Stockholm, Edinburgh Fringe Festival to Woodford Folk Festival, been heard on the airwaves of BBC London and ABC Radio, and graced the front cover of Time Out Magazine as one of London's Top 10 Cabaret Acts.
We asked Victoria her thoughts on the meaning behind the notes 🎶 "Some of these songs are not always beautiful - they are gritty, lost and longing, based on old folk song motifs, heavy with expectation and open chords. The songs laugh, but the laugh is sometimes bitter. And that's why they are so beloved. I come from a cabaret background, where laughter and pain come hand-in-glove. It can never take itself too seriously, because the world outside is serious and sad enough. Human relationships are stupidly wonderful and improbable, and that's what we're reflecting in the music." “She’s just incredible! She can do anything!" said one US Choreographer about our ONCE Movement Director Amy Campbell 💃
Amy is one of Australia's most accomplished dance talents with a career spanning all areas of the entertainment industry. As well as an accomplished dancer, Amy choreographed 'Funny Girl the Musical,' 'In the Heights,' 'The Bodyguard' and 'An Act of God.' We asked Amy what she's looking forward to most in the lead up to the Sydney premiere of Once! "I am most excited to extend the physicality of the brilliant score and bring to life a modern Dublin. I am equally excited and intimidated at the challenge of movement with instruments, they are very expensive!" 📸 @robertcatto
Meet Richard Carroll, the director of the Sydney premiere of ONCE ✨
Richard has directed a series of epic shows including 'Calamity Jane', 'Spamalot' and 'Gypsy.' We are thrilled Richard is returning to Darlinghurst Theatre Company after co-directing 'An Act of God' with Mitchell Butel in 2018.
After an extensive casting process, we asked Richard why this cast in particular are incredibly special. “Once asks for so much from the actors who perform it. Not only do they need to tell this beautiful story every night with truth, passion and humour - they also need to sing the exceptional songs with all of the same qualities. AND they are their own band, so every one of them needs to be an exceptional instrumentalist. I’m blown away by the capabilities of the cast we have assembled for Once, who seem to embody all of these talents effortlessly, and with a heart-melting Czech-Irish wink." #oncesydney
