Congratulations to the Singapore Book Publishers’ Association (SBPA) on your 50th anniversary!
Over the past 5 decades, SBPA has evolved and grown. Today, they have over 70 member companies that are engaged in a diverse range of publishing, marketing and distribution activities in both print and digital formats. SBPA’s efforts in growing the local book ecosystem is commendable and I hope they can keep up the good work.
Congratulations too to all the winners of the 2018 Book Awards! The winning titles cover multiple genres and celebrate the achievements of our writers and publishers.
Let us continue to support local talents, so our literary sector can grow and flourish.

It’s Mid Autumn Festival today. Joined in the celebrations at Our Tampines Hub and Tampines North over the weekend.
Wishing all a happy 中秋节!
This fruit is common in Brazil. Do you know what it is?

One Saturday every month, #TampinesNorth CC hall is transformed into a mini-supermarket. Under the new Project 100=50 @Tampines North, eligible residents can choose and buy groceries and just pay half price (max $100 total value). Heartwarmers philanthropists contribute up to $50 per family per month. @shengsiong helps by supplying the groceries and pricing them cheaper than their supermarkets. @heartwarmersvolunteer and @tampinesnorth#volunteers help to arrange the groceries, assist residents with their shopping and at the check out. This is truly an innovative #communityservice project, also taking place at four other locations in Singapore.

At IWAF on 19 Sep 9.58am, I announced to the global aviation community that Singapore has acceded to the Montreal Protocol 2014.
The new law was passed by Singapore Parliament in Jul. It ensures the safe, secure and efficient operation of commercial flights.
Unruly passengers can affect the safety of air travel. According to IATA, between 2007 and 2016, airlines reported more than 58,000 incidents involving unruly passengers on flights, or about one incident every 1,000 flights.
Unruly behavior includes assault of other passengers or crew, sexual abuse or harassment, illegal consumption of narcotics, refusal to comply with safety instructions, making threats that could affect the safety of the crew, passengers and aircraft, and other types of disorderly behavior.
Speech by SMS @vpmlam explaining the new law, link in bio.
Met many people at IWAF 2018. Whether they are officials of ICAO, or delegates from Latin America, South Africa, Canada or Middle East, most expressed appreciation for what Singapore has been doing in the global civil aviation sector. In particular, they found the training opportunities provided by Singapore Aviation Academy useful. I am also glad that fellow Singaporeans have been contributing in different expert groups to tackle various issues facing the industry. Many thanks to these colleagues for flying the 🇸🇬 high.
